I would also love to see the two time slips. That way we can compare 1. date - time of year and weather conditions of both runs 2. 60' time - maybe he's better at launching the Mustang off the line? |

I am a service advisor in a FORD dealer. You can only imagine the shit I hear all day long. It didnt stop me from buying my 5gen especially when the price is now almost identical. It was one thing to buy a mustang back when they were 5 grand cheaper than a camaro but when they decided to hike the price up 5 grand just cause they put a new motor in you just cant justify that in my book. The camaro is much more car and always has been, the mustang has always been a little faster and alot less money. (until now)When customers say to me "im asking myself why you are driving a camaro working in a ford dealer" I say to them you should be asking yourself why im working in a ford dealer and I drive a camaro.
this was me 3 years ago![]() Im much happier now. |

Why aren't there any companies tuning the 5th gen Camaro SS "seriously" like they did with the 5.0 stang and the 4th gen SS?
Some may argue that it's because the mustang sells like crazy, the aftermarket is filled with various tuning choices. But, the 4th gen didn't nearly sell as well as the 5th gen, yet there were some companies that seriously tuned them. Whats holding aftermarket tuners from jumping on the 5th gen? I hope that we see some serious effort put into this new platform, something like the texas speed LS1 4th gen: The car is an auto and has the following mods: - Precision Race Components 215 Fully CNC Ported Cylinder Heads - Magic Stick 4 Camshaft - F.A.S.T. 92mm Ported Intake - P.T.M. 95mm Throttle Body - Texas Speed 100mm MAF - 1 7/8" KOOKS Headers And ofcourse some serious weight reduction at ~3900 lbs (~500-600 lbs reduction). Texas Speed say that they later broke this record run, and ran a 9.66 @ 136mph w/ a 1.30 sixty-foot.

No. Not like that. The guys at LMR did put in serious effort in that car. But, That car has a built 427 ci and a procharger.
How can it be compared to a car that still has a stock short block with a cam and the usual boltons that alot of customers would do, plus ofcourse weight reduction? I mean something like what a couple of companies did to the (still very new platform) 5.0 and what Texas Speed did for the 4th gen LS1 i posted in my prevoius post. |

tires are a big deal at the strip; comparison should be all seasons to all seasons or summer/performance to summer/performance

But let's not forget the less-memorable cars from either camp. The '71-'73 Mustang ('71 Mach 1 and Boss 351 excluded, of course), the Mustang II (ugh), the early 80s 255 V8 cars that put out an awe-inspiring 117hp, the swarms of 2.3L 4-banger Fox-body cars, the '96-'98 2v 4.6L GTs and pre-fix '99 Cobras. I'm pretty sure Camaro guys would most likely rather forget the mid 70s Camaros (145-155hp 350 anyone?), the '82 Z28 with Cross-Fire injection, the 3rd-gen Iron Duke 2.5L 4-banger Camaros and of course, the '03-'09 Camaro. Debating on which car has been 'much more' over the years is purely subjective (especially when both cars have had so many variations and have been around for 40+ years), and as such, is one which I will not touch with a 10-mile pole. That said, with regards to the current GT and SS, I don't think there's been a Camaro and Mustang that has been this close, when objectively speaking from a performance and price standpoint. In my opinion, you can't go wrong either way.

The 2005 Mustang GT had a base price of $24,995. The 2011 GT has a base price of $30,495. The difference is roughly $5,500 dollars in 6 model years. I don't see nothing really out of line or major about that, considering how quickly the price of cars goes up. Not to mention the improvements to the car. The Camaro went up roughly the same ratio from 2002 to 2010. |
