You shouldn't be considering either purchase at this time or for the near future.

Go with the Camaro in a few years. You may have to wait a little longer, but it will be in much better condition than any C4/5 Corvette.

There's also an issue of practicality. A Corvette is more of a second car, not your daily driver. Sure, you can do it, but the lack of trunk space and backseats make it difficult to fit all your crap in there.

And I would heavily advise to be as much of a miser as you possibly can when leaving college.

Before you buy anything, do some reach on the power of compound interest. Here is a link, but the quality isn't that great. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/152260...vs_late_saver/ It should give you the idea though.

I say used cobalt/focus for 10-12,000.

You've got more important things to think about : )

I'd wait to buy your dream car until you have a secure job under you and one year with that job. Stay with your POS Bug Eye for now.

You will have waited 5 years already at that point, whats another few months?
At this point, I'm driving an Impreza that has 100k miles on it. It won't last forever, and it wouldn't remotely surprise me if I travel another 100k miles in it over the next year, especially if I get a job in Topeka or Kansas City while living in Lawrence. I don't want to be blowing my new car budget on this car when it is already next to worthless. For example, a $3k motor replacement would be more than the value of my car in a couple of years. It would be smarter to spend that $3k on a car that will retain that value over the following 2 years rather than investing more than the value of the car for it to survive.

I probably should point out that my intention is to make an enormous down payment on the Camaro or pay in full the value of any Corvette. The rationale behind this is that my credit is almost nonexistent. With a market like this, I can't expect a good interest rate, so I only want to have a small amount to pay over time. Coming out of college with very little money and no loans, I could be worse off. Many of you mention loans, but I don't have to deal with them since I've worked and had help through college. I've been very fortunate.

I won't be getting a Cobalt only because it would be a disappointment until I could get my RWD muscle car. It would take so much out of my Camaro-Corvette fund that I would have to start over and hope to get one in 2015. That's not acceptable to me, so I'll continue to use the Subaru until I have to buy.

In any case, I will have to buy a car eventually. When the Subaru dies [again], I will have to buy something. My goal is to buy a new Camaro SS, but I would be equally delighted to drive a Corvette with light use. I will continue to deliberate.

Both are awesome cars. I would get the Camaro, maybe get the LT package instead of the SS. Would be cheaper cost and insurance. THe new camaro would be new and have a new car waranty with it as well. Then depending on your job in a year or two get a vet for weekends and fun. But as a daily driver esp. in the winter and so forth I would go with the new Camaro.

I can barely choose for myself Blur. So this is the advice I'm gonna give ya.

First off : I suggest that you buy the camaro. Recommending a C6 vette. Go Broke or go home. Cuz in this economy, you will be broke anyway.

Second off, Finding a job: It will be extremely hard to find a job right out of college that is going to pay what you expect. I know this first hand. All through college I heard everybody talking six figures right out of college. Theres always the story of the one guy that got this much before he even got out of college, and you know what that is probably true, and you know what else, he's probably lucky as hell, or slipped into that one time only job that doesn't exist for anyone else. I'm not tryin to bring you down or nothing, keep your bar raised, and expect to be dissapointed. Companies in this time are just not paying what they used to.

Thirdly: From Experience! This is not meant to be mean to women in any way. Once you start getting serious with one, your bank account will start to depreciate. Simple physics. Their goals won't aline with your goals, Hence you will lose, why, cuz we love them. I was content on sitting in cheap ass lawnchairs in my living room until we moved intogether, lets just say the lawn chairs were unacceptable just in case we had guests. Which we havn't had yet. That was part of my camaro fund which is now down to nothing.

Fourth: Bills suck. Get your car while you have the fewest of these.

Fifth: C4 Corvettes are nice, C5 corvettes are waaaay better, A C6 corvette is the best vette ever made. Getting my point. Don't get me wrong they are all nice, but in the end I think you will be driving around your C5, and see a C6 across the intersection and kick yourself. At least with a camaro you have avoided this altogether.

Honestly?

Anything worth having is also worth wating for. That's how I'm looking at it. (see below)
By the time you save that 30k, there might be a better Camaro out (we ARE talking 4 years worth of 'improvements', etc)...or you could get a used Camaro...

(below):
Which do you REALLY want? Do you want a Corvette or Camaro? I advise you to figure that out, then make plans around it. Good luck.
