Camaro Mysteriously Absent

Ford will race a Mustang and Dodge a Challenger in Friday night's NASCAR race at Daytona, but why is the Camaro not there? I think Chevy missed a golden opportunity. Why would you race the Impala instead of the Camaro when you could be head to head with Mustangs and Challengers? Bad move IMHO!

I thought Nascar trashed the idea of using the pony cars last year because toyota cried and whined that they didnt have a car of that class. We all know Nascar is sucking toyota's you-know-what, so it would seem odd that Nascar went ahead and let Ford and Dodge use the pony cars. I think the Nationwide series would be more popular if it was Mustang/Challenger/Camaro. Screw toyota.

I like Nascar, but the Challenger and Mustang will be racing in name only. Its mainly a decal on a practically standardized front end.

i wish they raced cars that we could essentially buy off of a dealer's lot...i guess this could be seen as a step in the right direction

These vehicles are far from what you buy off the lot. The owner of the vehicles could choose any manufacturer or model logo they want to.

Not Exactly.........

“The Nationwide Mustang has a lot of brand identity built into it. Working with NASCAR and our aero team, they really put a lot of emphasis on putting more of identity into the nose and the tail. It does not have the typical Cup [Car of Tomorrow] splitter. It has a splitter, but the nose looks more like a production nose of a Mustang.”

There used to be a reason it was called stock car racing. I agree with you, they should go back to cars having to be raced in stock trim with only safety modifications and homologation including a minimum number of units sold.

Because GM doesn't want a Camaro "stock car" that looks as crappy as the Mustang "stock car."

I saw these cars that will be raced this weekend.(Nascar Race Hub) They are much more than a decal. They look very cool and Chevrolet needs to allow the Camaro to join them. BIG mistake in my opinion not to get the Camaro in there as well.

I don't think any of the Nationwide COTs look much like the real thing:

I think a Camaro COT would look just as ugly as the other 3 manufacturers' cars.

Impala and Camry are the only ones that look remotely close to the production front ends due to the fact that the production front fascias actually are round, unlike Mustang and Challenger.

I don't see that. The Challenger and Mustang look like actual cars. Camry, Impala, Charger, Taurus were virtually indentical except for stickers. All the cars were the same, aero characteristics all the same. No creativity, no individualism. These new cars will have aero differences and you will actually be able to tell from 100 ft away what car it was. Nascar with all these cookie cutter cars was losing their fans. They know it, that's why this is happening.
