yes the 5.7 is the engine in which all the new dodge motors are being based off of. it is an underrated motor, rated more towards the 39-395 hp region. so it doesnt need the 6.1 AT ALL. It needs to loose a few pounds and it is good to go.

either way non of this is relevant because the target sales isnt in the same realm as the camaro or ford.

6.1 is old tech at this point. It is not efficient enough and would cause the R/T to get hit with a gas guzzler tax. The 5.7 is underrated anyways. Also I don't really get the whole it has to compete with the GT500, it is still considerably cheaper than the GT500 and with the new 6.4 will off an interesting middle ground between the 5.0/R/T/SS and the GT500, especially as the 11 GT500 has picked up a decent price increase..

The 5.7 isn't exactly a tribute to modern technology, it has speed density instead of MAF.

I agree with you.

One of the problems with the Challengers is launching them. Just jamming a bigger engine in the car won't help that issue. It may even make it harder to launch.

And of course you still have the weight factor.

Well no doubt this car is in battling range with the GT500 even know it can't stand a chance. Any ways I think it will take the advantage on the SS and possibly the GT. That SRT-8 is with no doubt in my mind aimed at a different more mature audience who are die hard Mopar fans. Also I think even know I hate to say it there will be a Z/28 most definitly. The GT500 beat the snot out of the Grand Sport in every camparison from drag times to track times. Not to mention price. So that would leave the next Corvette in line up to a 70,000 dollar base price. So that no doubt gives a new Z/28 a good price range from 41,000 to 65,000 in my predictions. Or who knows it might not be a Z/28 we might see the Camaro fad die down and we will see the arrival of the monster Chevelle.

True, but it does have VVT and MDS, neither of which will work on the 6.1.

I'm with you on the target audience. I kinda' think it's a shame, but maybe they've done the research to support this move

Can you site information for this statement? I keep finding different variations on the same review from Car and Driver.

Thanks

Ah, remember it's basically just the manuals with the wheelhop issue, the Autos seem to launch very well, so we should definatly see a nice improvement with them.

So, would you say that a Camaro SS with 4:10's, tune, intake, and exhaust would only be 0.1s faster in the 1/4? Because thats probably the rough equivalent to the changes being made to the SRT8's.

I would take a GT500 over the Grand Sport anyways. It feels like it has more history to it. I had one in the late 80's. Sure it was a little outdated but I loved every minute of it. Thats why I bought the GT cause it was half the price and was almost as fast as the '10 GT500.
