One of my favorite things i heard Bob Cosby say (out at Giant Square before it moved back to Jenro's) regarding racing..."you cant be afraid to break it". Truer words i dont think ive ever heard.

LOL. Close...."If you're afraid of breaking it, you're not going to run a number." That goes for all cars, of course.

Ultra....I haven't seen the MM&FF issue, but the 12.58 run was on a 1.917 60 ft. 112.47 MPH. 3.31 gears.

Sorry about the misquote on Smith. I thought it was ATCO. Every time I have heard of from the stang lately has been from ATCO.

Yeah I seen that 12.58 out of the stang. I think he had a 1.8 60ft and so did Smith. If someone could pull a 1.8 60ft with the camaro we may see 12.3-12.4. The IRS has something to say about that on stock tires though. Either way...I am still waiting to be blown away...
Actually im pretty sure Evan Smith ran his 12.6 with a 2.1 60'. Not 100% on that, but it for sure wasn't below a 2.0 and powerhouses 60' wasn't a 1.8 either.

Don't get mad at me cuz the new and improved (now with kung fu grip) 5.0 is faster than the gt500. Thats 4 bags of cement to the shelby.

How much of an advantage did Mustang have when GM didn't make any Camaros??? 300 hp isn't much, but it's 300 more than none. Let's not talk 03 04 Cobra or the Shelby.... Camaro was a much much much faster car last year. It wasn't a car at all for several years, yet you don't bring up those years.

Ultimately both great cars. Each person has his or her preference. I don't understand all of the animosity. Especially when it's devoid of any logic.

I was all about the Camaros when they came out in spite of the fact that I have owned 7 pretty nice mustangs in my life and no Chevy products. I held off buying one because of all the 5.0 rumors. At this point I'm glad I did as I guess I'm still happily hooked on the blue oval.

I think the Camaro is a better looking car. I love the fact that they don't have skinny 255's on the rear. The motor is fantastic.

Right now if my best friend told me he was buying an SS, I'd say GREAT FREAKIN CAR!!! It amazes me how fans of each seem compelled to argue over why the other car sucks, as opposed to why they like their particular car. Further they refuse to give the, "opposition" their due. Both great cars! Neither car sucks. Not even close!

It was a 2.06.

The 1.8 must have been on drag radials and it ran a 12.3.

I thought the 12.58 run was on a 1.8 60ft...I must have got the wrong info.

That is a good time though. I heard it was cool weather and at ATCO. He could not go faster than 12.7 on the other tracks from what I read.

Also...he ruined the rear-end after 30 passes also.

This guy power shifted, had plenty of passes, and was running at ATCO with cool air with a pretty good launch (1.91 60). While probably not the quickest time one will muster with the GT...all these factors alone will make this quicker than the vast majority of people across the country with stock cars...just like the maro's 12.58.

It looks like the cars are VERY VERY close in terms of stock performance.

Seems as if the stang could muster a 12.3 stock given it is putting down the same power and is more than 200lbs lighter. I know their are other factors...but 12.3 isnt out of the question for the 2011 GT. Which if this does happen...I dont see why this would be such a big deal...it would be .2 faster than the quickest camaro stock...so far.
Far from something to lose sleep over.

You know in the end it doesn't matter. Camaro guys are gonna buy Camaros, Mustang guys will buy Mustangs, and the you have those that just can't stand it that their car is not on top of the hill, so they continually are trading in their car for the next hottest ride losing their ass all the way to the bank. I've got the car i've always wanted to have.

Agreed I love my car and I am sure if I bought a mustang (which i wouldn't) something would come out a week later and I would want that... So I promise myself to not trade in a car until I have had it for 3-4 years..

i spent $375 for my gear swap in my lowly solid axle car. cheapskate...guilty as charged.
I bet that 10% or less of the miniscule number of Camaros that ever race on any type of track undergo a gear swap.

Again... why make everyone who buys a camaro pay for stuff that is only good for a track and suffer with designs that are only a benefit on a track??

For a few more dollars we could all have cars which you have to climb in and out through the windows and roll cages inside... why don't they ALL come that way stock?

MUCH easier said than done...they would have had to do all the development and validation tests for TWO powertrain combos (if not more) in the time span of one...just to have it ready in time to counter...that means the car would have had to be released even later..........

Ford did not answer the 2010 Camaro. There wasn't time. "They prepared an answered in anticipation of the 2010 Camaro" would be more accurate to say.

No doubt work began on this new engine right after the concept Camaro was released with an advertised 400 hp...and any bum could have seen that the weakest powerplant GM could have put into the Camaro back in 2006 was the LS2 out of the Corvette (even in '08 it was the 361hp L76 from the G8)...so they answered THAT. Don't let yourself believe that Ford was able to "answer fast, and GM can't"....

sounds like you were just scared of your car. For people driving at safe speeds and not racing over pot holes the SRA does it just fine. The IRS is arguably more comfortable but hardly to the point where its noticeably so. If youre racing on the course the differences are minimal.

as far as losing control in everyday situations, traction control systems do a great job of keeping everything safe
I think you left your reality distortion field on.

Last time I checked, the differential wasn't a suspension component. What are you going to do next, say the rear brake rotors hurt the quarter mile times?

At the time that survey was sent out, the IRS had been under the SVT car for three years. Nice try though.
You're not framing the question accurately either. Try again.
