![]() Apparently the gullibility of the general public continues. Even before this thread was started, a story was on the local news here saying that it was bogus and a poorly worded memo that was taken out of context. And here we have pages and pages of people's shorts in an uproar over nothing. Oh well. |

OK. For the two different viewpoints being expressed on this thread: It does seem silly that this memo came into the ever shining light of the media. Yes, it was an internal memo about execs and employees being asked to use the name "Chevrolet" for brand consistency. Ok I get it, that is fine. It is purely a business decision due to their global reach. But to the ones on here that are getting upset with the ones that express their preference of the Chevy name: Did anyone happen to notice that included in that memo was the request of Chevrolet employees to also cease using Chevy and expressly use Chevrolet to "Friends and Family"? Now that in my in my oppinion might be taking it a little far. just my .02

Not sure how this applies, either, since we're not talking about a government-run office. |

This is incredibly stupid. As other's have mentioned, you would think GM has other things to worry about than how people reference their particular brand. This isn't going to stop from saying "chevy". Even as of now the website is still listed as chevy.com.

What a great marketing ploy. Stir up all this with a 50 cent memo.

Many on here are Chevy/Chevrolet loyalists. To me it is a dilusion of the brand. While seemingly intended for internal GM consumption, it comes across as a silly exclusion of a part of the brand identity. I can just imagine 20 years from now some new GM employee hearing the term "Chevy" and not having a clue to what it refers. And, Yes, I fully understand the concept of brand identity. Coca Cola has done a Masterful job of using Coke as an identifier for their products. Likewise Pepsi. I just comes across as a diversion of the company's true mission. Build better, top quality, industry leading vehicles. Chevy is every bit as important an identification as Chevrolet. For those of us who have been on this planet a few years, it is another dilusion of special and treasured elements of the American society. As such, that is why many of us feel motivated to express our thoughts about this. No one is forcing you to agree with, or even read, these comments.
