Besides, this was an internal memo, not an announcement or whatever.
Yes, that may well be true, as a way of protecting branding. But, they shouldn't (IMHO) drop the "Chevy" references as it is equally as rich in brand equity.

Coke - Coca Cola - They embrace both names and have been very successful at it.

And granted many miss the point of branding, especially ina global market, but, therein lies the rub. Use and embrace both, they have a lot of value in keeping the brand profile conspicuous.

I wasn't saying it was. But did you see the video? That's my point they want to advertise Chevrolet but then why do they advertise Chevy in their commercials? Just doesn't make any sense...

Marketing Execs involved in this one got egg on their face. What are those guys talking about in the boardroom anyway? Someone actually thought they should write a memo about this? It's a wonder they could produce the Camaro. Thank God for big miracles.

No thanks, I'll keep using Chevy because Chevrolet takes too long to say it.

The fallout, like the post on this thread, will be myriad 9and inconsequential)!

In a lesser known memo, the famous actor/comedian, Chevy Chase, is being sued by GM to legally require him to change his name to "Chevrolet Chase" so that the GM advertising suits can forcibly maintain branding continuity . . . (I just can't find the copy of my memo--will post it as a pdf if I can find it.)

And in a recent city council meeting, a motion was made in town of Chevy Chase Maryland, to change its name to Chevrolet Chase.

Again, another ingenious branding initiative by advertising geniuses who get paid for such incredible cutting edge thinking as that memo!

Branding, branding, branding . . . where will we all be without branding! How did the world survive without branding!

Another tempest in a teapot!

What are all of you getting bent about? This is what they said.

"We hope people around the world will continue to fall in love with Chevrolets and smile when they call their favorite car, truck or crossover “Chevy.”

It makes perfect sense in marketing to use Chevrolet.

GM's RESPONSE:
Why is everyone getting upset? The response from GM states that its quite ok to use Chevy. They aren't against this. its more for global market not domestic market. The response is airing with You not against its like calling it Mcdonalds vs Mickey D's. One is official but both refer to same thing. I'm but is it so bad that mcdonalds would like to be referred to as mcdonalds rather than Mickey d''s especially when expanding to new markets?

I don't think i've actually ever used the word Chevy. I've always said just Camaro or Chevrolet Camaro.
