It's like X said earlier, I don't agree with the way the mods handle everything but for the most part I feel they act unbiasedly and do what they feel is right for the betterment of this site. We may not always like what they do (merging posts
) but it's their job to monitor the threads and make judgement calls. Personally I wish they'd shut down half of the Mustang/Camaro threads faster than they do because it usually goes sour due to Mustang trolls fishing for trouble or some of our own members acting like asses. I didn't like the fact that Scotty's thread was deleted because I saw it as a slap in the face to him but I can see why it was done after reading the above explanation. Overall, this is a great site and I'm happy to be a part of it.

You know...I'm actually happy this came up.
First, other mods...great points and really well put. But, I wanted to add this (and it's SO perfect timing). I got this two days ago before this thread popped up. I AM going to edit who it was from, though. This IS a private message, but I want to share (without naming the person) so you can all see some of the comments we get. Quote:
We ARE here for the members first. Not everyone is going to agree with what we do. We know that. We've been LIVING with that. Shoot...we tried politics...and you know what? When it was said it wouldn't last, we STILL tried it thinking everyone would be mature about it and be able to hold a polite conversation. Well, it only took a couple rotten apples to spoil it for the bunch. We got rid of the politics on the site. Cussing? Well, while we don't necessarily WANT cussing, some words are so "normal," that we might tend to think it really doesn't matter. Yet, yes...there ARE some words that will be taken out. No, "sucks" isn't one of them...and if you are specifically talking about a book/movie called, "Moby Dick," then no...it won't get edited. Those sounds like a site "filter" which when someone types in the filter screen words, no one will ever get to type them or read them. To sum it up (as I'm getting really sleepy), we don't do anything on purpose to tick people off. We don't like having to close threads....but we do. We don't like having to edit, but we do. We don't like to remind people they have to follow the rules, but THEY DO. RULES ARE PUT IN PLACE FOR YOU! THE MEMBERS. Those that don't want to follow the rules are shown the door...regardless of who you are, how much money you make, how "big you are" on the site, etc. This place IS my 2nd home. I've been here for quite some time. I personally won't let anything happen to it. And, luckily we have a great team of 12 other mods that care that much about it too! I have more to say...but really, I'm falling asleep....talk tomorrow! G'night! |

Yea, i never said anything about bias or anything like that. The mods are fair IMO no one gets special treatment...even the ppl here from Day 1. All I am saying is it seems to me like threads are getting closed faster and faster. And IMO if a thread gets out of hand they have every right to close it. The problem I have is when a thread "could" get out of control so it is banned. IDK...kinda ruins the experience for me a little bit. Feel like i am walking on egg shells at time. That being said I have been here since the very begining (not as a member at first, but as a lurker) and I hope this little issue doesnt get too crazy to push ppl like me away...thats just my 2 cents tho....
I hope nothing has been taken the wrong way, I just was expressing my point of view. Not trying to bash on anyone or the site. |

There's a very, very fine balance between keeping things controlled and containing an "outbreak". Those of you who know me well enough, know that I'm not afraid to speak my mind on any issue and I normally try to keep things light-hearted. This is the internet after all. That being said, the other mods have all made great points on this topic as it is. my only question is this: What purpose does starting this thread serve? the threads you brought up in the OP, you had no idea what was going on in the background. And while I'm not trying to say that you don't have a right to ask questions, sometimes its better to find out information privately before raising an issue such as this. mainly because these types of threads do nothing but raise mistrust within our ranks. I dont think that everyone should blindly line up and never speak their voice, but at the same time, keep this in mind: this is a privately owned website and the owners rules dictate how we moderate the site. everyone is here of their own free accord. If you dont agree with the way something has been handled, by all means ask us. In most cases its a very simple answer. (usually, member repeatedly not following the rules after being warned....repeatedly). and if you still dont like the way things are being handled, make use of another freedom here at Camaro5.com. the freedom to leave. I dont know what your intention was in creating this thread (which is why I asked.) Whether it was just to find out why those threads (and possibly others) had been closed. or whether it was to see (as the title implies) how many people feel the same way as you about some recent events. ![]() IDK. you tell me so we are on the same page. ![]() The Scotty situation... that was his decision to make. If he feels he can't be here as anything more than a car salesman, then that is his call. There have been plenty of other members that have been "corrected" and they have stayed and been able to continue on posting without violating the rules because they are here for the Camaro above all else. tho... one thing did catch my eye.... a couple threads that you dont have the full story on are closed and we are nazis? ![]() Like Tag Ur It said, this place is like a second home for a lot of us. Literally, like a second home. There have been stories about relationships on the brink of failure due to people being on this site so much. (some of those stories are very... very true). When I say this place is like a second home, I mean it. I'm a member on nearly every other camaro forum (and many other types of forums as well) out there. But none of which do I feel like I do with this one. You guys are our extended family. Some of us have been here nearly since the site's conception. We've been thru the ups and downs, the mustang trolls, the spammers, the overzealous vendors, the speculation, the enjoyment that is the 5th gen Camaro. (and so much more that I could go on about) and with you being part of our extended family, we do what we can to satiate you without letting things go overboard. Sometimes we let things go on too long, sometimes we nip it in the bud before it gets a chance to explode. Cus its honestly a lot simpler to just shut it down early instead of having to play damage control after the fact. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that the regular members don't know about. And it's that way for a reason. We may all be well-meaning adults (most of us anyway), but beliefs and internet attitudes (aka e-peens) can get out of control in a heartbeat. And as it has been said before, we cant be everywhere at once on here. Sometimes we'll see a thread starting to tip the wrong way right before we log off for the night and we'll remove a couple of posts that were pushing it in the wrong direction. Sometimes we'll just close it all together. Just depends on the situation. I know that many... many times before I became a moderator here, my posts were edited or completely removed. Not because of my content (well, sometimes they were), but because I was replying to someone else who was starting trouble and the other mods were doing "pre" damage control. But, back to being that this is a second home for a lot of us. I find it destestable when someone comes into my home and accuses me of being a nazi. (regardless of my very strong aryan genetic descent )(and another thing about me that you should know, I dont get offended very easily, and even when I do, it passes quickly. notice the dripping sarcasm in the genetic statement ) We dont just close/delete threads and posts without reason. Its all part of the bigger picture. Sometimes we can't see the forrest for the trees.

I am part owner of another car forum, and I can tell you this much, I DO know what goes on behind the scenes of a car forum running on VB. It's just as they say, you're constantly patrolling ensuring that there isn't some keyboard bully running roughshod and fancy free making everyone else miserable. We put it right out there in the rulebook that certain things won't be tolerated, and infraction points, timeouts, etc. happen.
Forums are privately owned for the most part, and closing of threads, and editing (as long as it's not changing context) to ensure the posts stay within the rules is certainly a part of the site. It's how it works. The freedom of speech does NOT apply at privately owned forums. You don't like it? Then start your own forum. With that said, moderators that are also active on the boards tend to see the most issues and can SEEM like nazis to the untrained observer. But it's like a desk sergeant in a police station or the cop on the beat. Which one will tend to see things as they unfold and gauge the trend of whether something bad is brewing? Anyway, happy posting. If you approach making posts with the idea that perhaps some 10 year old kid is reading the post, what would you want that kid to think about your post? Be respectful of others, don't bash each other (we got Mustangs for that) and remember, we're all here because of our love for all things Camaro, especially the 5th gen!
