5.0 vs Camaro drag timing (mini-thread)

I know there are different times out there for Mustang vs Camaro in 1/4 mile. From what I can gather thus far, the Mustang offers 3 axle gear ratios:
3.31 stock
3.55
3.73

Since I have seen the 1/4 mile times from 12.7s to 13.2 seconds, my guess is the 3.73 was in the faster and the 3.31 was in the slower one.

Just a FYI

Don't base SS times off the times on this site. There are probably some 80,000+ camaros out there, I'm sure some have run even faster than the 12.5 posted here.

Interesting. Best magazine timing I have seen was 13 flat. I know many (normal) drivers get lower 13s. Nice seeing that the Camaro can break into the 12s stock.

There was a local Mustang ripping a 12.58 bone-stock last weekend in 75-80 degree weather.

I don't see the Camaro winning any race assuming both cars are optioned equal and driven equal. Maybe a stripper Camaro with a GREAT driver and a M6 could take a power-everything equipped 5.0 with an auto, but that's about it. Wait until the weather gets cool in the fall. I bet you see these 5.0's rocking high 11's with nothing but drag radials on them.

I am in no way bashing GM or endorsing Ford, but I have to call it like I see it. GM had better do something quickly. There's a dealer near me selling a new 5.0 stick car with 3.55's for 31,680. It's candy metallic red too.

OK so what were you complaining about again?

To b honest guys, when I first saw the video on youtube of the new 5.0 running strong and dynoing crazy numbers I figured it was a pre-prototype that was "massaged" by the Ford engineers. Then I read the article in MM+FF about them running a 12.34 with drag radials and I thought BS. Now that one has REALLY done that right at my local track, I am a firm believer.

It's 1987 all over again. You have the 5.0 running .2-.4 faster than the Camaro and costing a little chunk less. Is it any wonder why the Mustang sales have now trumped the Camaro sales?

Well, in my opinion, the Mustang and Camaro are both sufficiently fast. I do believe that a Mustang with a 3.73 will beat a Camaro with both drivers being equal, but so what?

I hate to say this, the real issue for me is that I "think" that the Mustang may have a more solid interior and the manual shift quality is a bit higher.

I have been dead set on buying a Camaro since the concept and I am very close to buying it. Well, last week for shoots and giggles, I decided to test drive a Challenger (its OK) and a Mustang 5.0 (very nice). I am now very torn. I will conduct my final test drive on 5/3 (tomorrow) and make the decision. At this point, I am leaning towards the Mustang.

Something just doesn't feel right about it since I have been a huge Camaro fan for so long and I come from a GM family. I have been driving Chevy for past 20 years. But in the end, the car I like the most is going to win.

BTW, as a disclaimer. I do think that both the Camaro and Mustang are awesome cars. Its nice to be faced with this decision. If I was buying a 2012 model, maybe it wouldn't even be a choice (assuming Camaro is getting upgraded interior).
