Is the 3.9s time via automatic transmission? That's the only thing I can think of. GM is secretive with how they obtained 3.9s and I bet it was via the auto transmission.
Until they out and say how they got 3.9s, then I dont really care. Ford has come out and said how they got their run, which seems entirely realistic given traction issues.

For all we know GM could have put full drag slicks on the CTS-V and got the 3.9s run.

CTS-V comes shod with Micheline Pilot Sport PS2 tires, 2010 GT500 and non-performance package 2011's come with Goodyear F1 Supercar tires. Having run the PS2's previously on another car, I can tell you there is a huge difference between the two tires in regards to straight line acceleration traction. The PS2's hook better than the Goodyear's, hands down.

They say the Goodyear F1 G2 tires that come with the 2011 SVT performance package are much better than the regular F1 supercar tires, but I'm not sure if that means grippier around the road course only or if they are stickier in straight-line applications, too. Time will tell, I guess.

D@mnit! 'logic beat me to it. I think a lot of CTS-V's performance comes from those PS2s. They're the same ones found on ZR1; I hope Z28 gets them too Anyhoo... I bet if you stick those on a GT500, the gap would close a bit more. Despite the weight, though, I just think CTS-V is a better car; of course, it should be for how much more it is, lol.

well the advertising around the 2011 SVT track pack tires makes you believe that they are like Formula 1 racing tires. I wouldn't have guessed that the CTS-V tires are grippier, especially since SVT supposedly changed the tires in the first place because of complaints about grippiness.

Yes, 3.9 seconds was achieved with the auto. 4.2 was achieved with the manual. Just watch motortrend's review and they back up GM's claims. Same gear sets as both V8 Camaro transmissions.

Awesome! Thanks for clarifying that. It's all making sense to me now.

I've done some cursory checks on other 3 second cars and it seems like all of them are available with some sort of automatic transmission (eg. using tiptronic flippers). This would include the 3 second Porsches and Lambos.

Now I understand why the 2011 GT500 with SVT track pack does such good track times but its performance is not consistent with the 0-60 times.

Thanks!!

Come awn guys its because the Caddy has auto vs the GT500 manual which has to lift of the gas 3 times before it goes through the lights at the end on the 1/4.

Auto's rule the strip for a reason especially with FI.

Trust me I would be the first one in line if the offered an kick as auto for the GT500.
