2011 GT500 9 seconds faster around VIR than 2010 GT500

Of course that is with the SVT Package.

Quote:
We know firsthand that both the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 and GT aren't just plenty quick – they're downright scary fast compared to their predecessors. It should follow, that the king of the heap 2011 GT500 should be similarly faster than the 2010 model. Let's just go ahead and call that one an understatement. Ford just dropped a tasty video on the interwebs showing the car lapping one of our favorite tracks – Virginia International Speedway.

Ford's engineers had it in their minds that the new aluminum block with its 120-pound weight savings should help the car click off the 4.1-mile Grand West portion of the track about three seconds quicker than the outgoing car. Thing is, the 2011 GT500 managed to lap the track in 2:58.5 – a full nine seconds faster than last year's version.

Progress is most definitely a good thing. Hit the jump to see the car do the dance.

And here for some video:

You guys know where my loyalty lies but much props to the Ford boys here. Looked to me like he hit the rev limiter a few times and had it ragged several times in the corner and could have shaved a tiny bit off even. Good work.

Oh sweet, I was really wondering how the new mustang was doing. I hadn't read anything about it in the last 20 minutes.

WOW
they are both autos, so none of them have their better gearing. if it was track pack Vs performance pack i think the difference would be a little more pronounced.

Apparently JPS ran a 10.95 @ 125 mph in a 2011 GT tonight. Have not idea on mods though. I am guessing forced induction or maybe some giggle gas.

New issue of MMFF posted their stock stang(11GT) ran 12.6 @ 112mph.

It put down 375rwhp on the dyno.

Best printed time so far for the 2011 GT.

Evo Performance just ran a 10.91 @ 127 mph on a 100 shot of gas. The car had the same mods as the 11.65 @ 119 mph(405rwhp) but they worked the tuning some more and got 414rwhp out of it NA. It dynoed 469rwhp/513rwtq on a 100 shot.

So we know of 2 2011 GTs in the 10s already.

I am leaning towards the Mustang now. But in a few years I am hoping to sample a Camaro or maybe even a Challenger. Firebird, Camaro, Mustang I have owned all three and enjoyed owning each one. No a one car fanboy, I think part of the fun is making a choice.

But it is also fun to bust on each other about our cars. Nothing personal. We are really all the same.
Absolutely.
