Hey maybe Obama will do some good for the nation. I wasn't sure because he is inexperienced, but maybe he'll do really well

I just saw today AIG sucked up Billions and Billions more of the bailout cash to stay afloat. I don't understand why the gov't can't throw GM (and the other US automakers) a bone to keep them around until the $25B grant goes through in 2010. I'd much rather my tax money going to keep GM in the green than pouring it into the AIG bucket.

, companies like AIG need fundamental change in order to operate more effectively, and so I think the government should not give them the billions they are handing out until AIG changes a lot of stuff. I think Obama will really help the American auto-industry in terms of money (I just hope they last till inaguration!), but I feel they too need to reform their line-ups. I hate to say it but I would love to see GM cut like half of their vehicles from their line-up, and close down a fair number of dealerships (I have heard 25%, but I was thinking more along the lines of 10%, then keep cutting in 10% increments until it starts working out better since one of the appeals of GM is how accessable their dealerships are, so they should still keep a good amount). Well that's my $.02, hang in there GM!

GM can't afford to be cutting dealerships or models. It's too expensive, and not really business smart. You don't get much return on something you don't let develop (new vehicles). It would put the economy in an even worse place if they started doing this. Thousands, tens of thousands of jobs would be lost.

Actually its a valid point. Most bailouts wipe out the shareholders, so it is a practically guaranteed $0 stock value situation. Either the company gets a bailout that wipes out the shareholders, or it goes bankrupt. Given the domino effect, I'd bet money on the former (and, when you think about it, so has everyone who has put down a deposit...)
