Any F1 fans willing to help a Soldier

Hello from sunny, sandy Camp Taji, Iraq!

I've been on the boards here a few days now. It's one of the only entertainment websites the DOD isn't blocking right now, and I've really been enjoying it. I wish I had some hot wife pictures to share with all of you, but I'm stillon the hunt. This deployment is not helping much.

I was wondering if anybody here might watch F1, and if they do, could they burn the races to DVDs and send them to me. I would be willing to cover the shipping and the DVDs and any other expenses.

If anybody is interested I'll PM them my address. I really do appreciate the help!

Thanks.

John

I'm sorry I can't help you out but I wanted to reply to a fellow F1 fan. We are few and far between in this part of the world and should stick together.

I would love to be able to help but I don't have a DVD recorder and I'm not sure you would want a recording of the broadcast we are forced to watch here in Canada. TSN (The Sports Network) has exclusive rights to broadcast F1 here and forces a blackout of Speed's coverage. I get to see Friday practice and the F1 Debrief show on Speed but Qualifying and the race are blacked out. TSN repackages BBC coverage which generally is good but they only show the bare minimum. No pre and post race stuff and the commercial breaks are hacked in with no regard for the action. But I digress.

Have you been to any races? Got a favourite driver? Team?

While I'm not a huge fan of any particular driver, there are a few I don't like. Mostly I'm a technology fan. My favourite team is McLaren and naturally the team I love to hate is Ferrari. I've been to a dozen or so races over the years. My pet peeve is the reduction in technological freedom imposed by the FIA in the name of cost cutting. I miss the turbo era and drivers such as Keke Rosberg, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, and of course Gilles Villeneuve.

It would be nice if we could get this thread going with some other fans to talk about F1 and, of course, find someone to help you out.

Hey Fellas.

I'm a huge F1 fan. I really don't follow the big teams. I've been pulling for BMW Sauber for a long time, and Williams as well. I like to see the guys that have stuck it out for year do well. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case for some time. I was hoping one of the new teams would do well this year, but they can hardly finish a race. I was thinking that Schumacher was going to tear the place up, but he hasn't done that so much, either.

I've never been to a race, but I'm thinking the Canadian GP is my best bet. I just have to be back in the States at the right time. I honestly think Ecclestone has it out for North America. I thought he would really encourage the start up of USGP1, but it seems that whole prgram has faltered. I don't know why he is trying so hard to go after developing markets when he has one right here in North America.

I really don't have a team that I dislike, but I'm not a big Alonso fan. He whines too much. I think once Robert Kubica gets a decent car he's going to go places.

I'm trying to figure out how the whole F-duct thing works, and I hope that more teams start using the KERS system next year. I think it has to be an all-or-none approach. The teams that have are way too strong with it, and those without it really can't compete.

Thanks for all the offers guys. I'll just leave an open invitation if anybody comes along.

I'll see if I can track down the race feeds somewhere on the internet for you. If I can find a MPEG then I can get it onto a CD or DVD for you. it's too bad F1 isnt like MotoGP where you can buy a subscription and then watch the race on your computer.

BTW I think what the F duct does is somehow break up the air flow over the back of the car just before the rear wing. If the air doesn't flow smoothly over the car, then the rear wing won't generate downforce and also generates less drag. That's why it's only used on the straightaways to boost top speed.
