Yes, I saw "the hand" but I'm not buying that! I've seen the inside of his car and that doesn't look like it- missing the IOM interior and paint! Did you forget I'm not blonde?

I LOVE firemen...

My Dad was a Volunteer Fireman for our town for 60 yrs until he passed away in 2008, so I've been in firehouses my whole life...

You guys are heroes, rushing INTO burning buildings, while others rush OUT...

The 1st photo was taken in front of the firehouse after he died, and I got all his turnout gear after the funeral...
The 2nd photo is me standing next to his truck after they had taken 1st Place at Inspection just 3 wks after he died...
The 3rd photo is the trophy that my Dad's company won for him....
Thanks! You should be very proud of your father... That was very touching. His guys look very sharp in thier Class A uniforms honoring him.

I know what you mean. I had two when I was younger. Great choice in dogs.

Thank you for saying that!!!...they are like family to me...

My Dad was their oldest member with the most years of service...he was just honored for his 60 yrs in March 2008, and 6 months later, in September, he was gone...

He kept telling me for the last 3 yrs of his life that, "I just want to get my 60 yrs, and then I'm ready to pack it in", and that is EXACTLY what happened...I do believe he was hanging on for that milestone...

The guys in his Company tell me that part of Company 1 died with my Dad...he was so loved and respected...

We had a 'presidential level' funeral procession with every single firetruck in the Department driving to the cemetery with a police escort...the Chief's cars were the limos for our family...

Here are a few more photos for you.....
the 1st one is of our whole family with my Dad being recognized for his 60 yrs of service at the Annual Installation Dinner...(I am standing next to my Dad with the black dress and blond hair)
the 2nd one is his coffin passing by his firehouse under the ladder trucks with the American flags...that's where his turnout gear was and they rang the bell as each truck and car passed the firehouse...we then went past his house(keep in mind it was 8 firetrucks and 3 Chief's cars), then on to the cemetery where he was buried with full military honors for serving in the Navy during WWII...

thanks Jo...I felt a little funny posting this, but after I saw the guy that's a fireman post his pics, it just reminded me of my Dad, who I miss so much...

I just wanted to let others know what a great man my Dad was, both to his family, his community, and this nation...

I'm sorry you lost your parents too, it's hard for anyone to understand that hasn't been in our shoes...

It hits like a ton of bricks at the drop of a hat with no notice...I've been a bit down since Mother's Day, which I'm sure you felt the same way....it's not the same after they are gone...

We go on with our lives, but they take a chunk of our heart with them, right?
