Short Range radios

Hi Guys,

I'm planning a road trip with my bro. We each wanna drive our own cars. Now i've never joined a Cruising group or anything. But I hear people use Radios? or Walkie talkies of some kind to communicate while driving?

I was wondering if anyone knows any good brands. Preferable hands free, and can plug into the Cigar lighter so I never have to actually worry about batteries.

Thanks! =D

sorry, can't be of any help, have never used them...however google is a wonderful thing. I'd start there, should be able to read customer reviews on various models at the right sites

Cobra and Midland are great brands but--

you need to find out what ohers are using. I think inexpensive handheld CB radios are the best, but only if others have CBs. But if the others ae using a 5 watt GMRS radio then that's what you need. Compatibility is the issue. Don't forget good old fashion cell phones.
Just re-read your post. If it's just you and your Bro then the two of you can decide. As I said above, I like CBs but the 5 watt radios are fine too.
I'm sure there are hands free for both classes but it will cost a bit, maybe a lot, more. A pair of 5 watt radios go for $75 bucks maybe. Good handheld CB maybe 75$ per.
I have the Midland75-822 CB that plugs into the lighter, or you put on a battery pack and wander around the boonies with it. I paid about $90 on Amazon a few months ago. I also have a pair of the Cobra 5 Watts that were about $60 on sale. I usually use the CB as my buddies have them and you can listen to the truckers for convoy/bear info.

I have a set of Midland radios that would meet your criteria. They are simple yet have like a 15 mile range and have a weather radio feature. I bought these for hunting and they work quite well. They are getting much cheaper than they used to be since cell phones basically do what they can and more.
