I'm all for competition... only time will tell though.

Thought we were going crazy with the threads about the economy, bailouts and escalating prices? It will be fun to visit the Mustang forums in a year, and enjoy someone else's chaos.

I could care less what the new stangs get. as long as they keep producing them and we still have rivals. thats the whole reason why GM makes such great engines to compete with competition. Either way Stangs will be getting wooped on by Camaros for a whole year and theres nothing they can do.

Also, I'm hearing a Twin-Turbo Ecoboost V6 (300 HP) for the lower model which would really hurt the LS/LT.

Any other opinions? Note: I'm buying an SS Camaro, so please keep fanboy comments to yourself and try to be neutral.
A twin turbo v6 only making 300 hp hahaha. Gm has a NA v6 that makes that.Ford needs to try to step up there hp without power adders. If we put a twin turbo set up on ours it will be no contest. Its a done deal the Camaro will win this one.

To bad you don't have your facts straight. The V6 Ecoboost slated for the 2011 Mustang will have a horsepower rating of at least 415. The 4cyl will be rated at 300 HP.

IIRC Ford's NA DI 3.5 V6 makes slightly more power than GM's NA DI 3.6 V6.

300 is obviously a wild guess based on the fact that we expect V6s to come lower than V8s. I agree with syr74, the TT DI V6 could easily have a higher output than any NA Ford would put in the Mustang. If they can match the LNF’s 130hp/L they would have a 455hp 3.5 V6.

once you have factory turbo you have easy access to more power.

I was under the impression that the Ecoboost would be an option on the GT.

I think they were saying at one point that the DI TT V6 would be offered alongside a V8 making similar power which would jibe with the 340/340 figures we’ve heard. There would presumably be a mileage advantage and price premium for the TT V6.

I think that in light of state of the industry and the need to keep up with the LS3/L99 powered Camaros, the TT DI V6 GT is either dead or it is going to be significantly faster than the V8 GT. Offering two engines in the same car with almost the same output seems like a huge waste of scarce cash.

Wild speculation: Ford could kill the GT’s V8 and market the Mustang as being fast but not thirsty while painting Camaro and Challenger as old fashioned and thirsty.

The EB V6 has long been under consideration for the Mustang, and may still show up under the hood of that car although AFAIK there are no plans for a run of the mill 3.5L, EcoBoost Mustang in the near future for several reasons. Given the drive for better fuel efficiency, and depending upon demand for the 5.0L in other applications, that situation could change.

Moving on to more likely scenarios, it seems that two GTDi engines from Ford are under serious consideration for the car in the future. First, a special edition Mustang with a more powerful take on the 3.5L, GTDi, V6 engine which most folks refer to as the Ecoboost V6 is apparently a real possibility. Such a car would bridge the gap between the 400hp GT and 500hp+ GT500 in terms of both performance and price and would very likely be badged as a GT350. Such a car would not be a volume offering and the engine would not be badged as an EcoBoost since it would be a more focused performance piece which places a greater emphasis on power and performance and less emphasis on economy and efficiency.

The other consideration is an Ecoboost, GTDi four cylinder, although it is unclear whether the purpose here is to replace or supplant the base V6 engine. The four cylinder GTDi engines are interesting because they produce great power even in full blown, I'm as green as Kermit and recycle for fun EcoBoost trim. Think near 300hp for a 2.5L EB four cylinder which knocks down extremely good fuel economy and you are more or less there.
