Courtesy is not dead yet.

Courtesy it seems is not dead yet. Still on the endangered species list, but not gone entirely. I went to KFC for lunch,(don't kill me its a choice) as I get back to the car the drive thru line had me blocked. The person behind where I parked politely backed up and let me out. I thought how nice! Then as I was trying to get out of KFC on the road, traffic was backed up from the light and someone stopped short to let me in. As I am driving back to work I'm thinking maybe things aren't as bad as I thought when some idiot cuts me off making me literally slam on the brakes. Oh well, guess 2 rights cancel 1 wrong.

It is rare these days. I ALWAYS hold doors open for people, bless them when they sneeze and let them in traffic like you mentioned. That was just how I was brought up but you're right, you don't find as many people anymore who do show common courtesy or respect.

I notice that I see a lot of that when I go to Texas even in most of the larger cities. You won't see much of that here in Oklahoma in Tulsa and OKC, but you do come across it some in the rest of the state.

I don't understand it either. Okies are the most polite people for the most part outside of their cars. Put them in a vehicle and their brain turns over.

I had an old lady (mid 80's) give me 5 bucks just for holding the door for her one night at the bullseye. I did it out of habit she gave me this look of complete astonishment and said that I was the nicest young man she had run into in a long time and wanted to know if I would teach her grandsons how to behave and then handed me 5 dollars.

it's the silver rallys on the car - render you invisible to idiots - that's why you get cut off
But ya people are supposed to not always be dicks...hard to find those people...
Hell, I'm not a girl that can't hold my own door - I don't expect a man to hold it for me (hold it open for me to grab it when I'm right behind you, yes, don't let it close in my face...but you don't have to stand back and let me go through first - I'm ok with a casual nicety)...but I have men where I work that, while you hold the door for them to grab, will walk right thru like you're holding it open for them...um?? I'm holding it so it doesn't slam in your face, I'm not a doorwoman there buddy...LOL

That just shows you how bad things are for someone to be surprised at you holding the door open. It blows my mind how rude and selfish our society as a whole has become. I would much rather do something for someone than vice versa. I taught my 12 year old son manners and how to treat people at a young age.

It goes further then actions too - it's not just doing nice things, but saying them -- I can't count how many people just say rude or mean things for no reason. I think it's good you teach your son to be polite to people - most people don't and those kids grow up worse then the rude adults we have now!
It's amazing how people exepct to be treated one way, but treat others the total opposite

I agree 100%. I brought my son up as I was raised. Treat others as you would want to be treated. It's not real complicated at all. I told him he would not only make others feel better by treating them with respect but he would feel good about himself.

I mean I can't say I'm always nice - but I'm not rude to people's faces unless they start with me...I might not like them or think anything well of them - but I would never say something to hurt them just because....
I keep the mean things to myself because I wouldn't want them to be mean to me for no reason either - keep your nasties to yourself....

I have a girl at work that's like that - I don't like her or respect her, but I keep it to myself (and my friends outside of work, but ) - I don't try to dsay or do things to make her feel bad...but she is the opposite..she's a very mean and hurtful person and has made "comments" in passing that were rudley directed to me (without actually stating it to me, but since she was speaking of things I've done, or worn or etc it was obvious what she meant) and that's just ridiculous....
I'm not 15, I don't care to be around people who act that way...

I always hold doors for people.

But one time I held the door for a lady and her elderly mother. She looks up and yells at me, "I can hold the door myself!!!"

I've got the same damn reaction. I wanted to let go of it right then but didn't.

I would never say that - I can hold it for myself but if someone's going to be nice I say Thanks....
I bet shes the type that walsk in and makes someone else race to grab it behind her instead of being nice....
