They're supposed to be released on the same day the redesigned corvette is. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Corvette having the first GenV engine.

Im glad to hear this, long live pushrods. Ever since Ford went to ohc motors they have been anemic unless you put a blower on it.

and the beauty is, when the DOHC versions were blown, they have put to shame much larger displacement motors with the same mods

Another little tidbit...

The C7 is still 2 years away, according to this same source (MotorTrend), so a TON can change, even IF they have their facts straight. It's fun to think about in any event...

A 5.5L OHV with more power and fuel efficiency than a much larger 6.2.....

(also keep in mind if questioning why not more power...the C7 is supposed to be lighter and smaller than the current Corvette)

According to sources inside GM, the C7 Corvette will be one of the first cars fitted with the next-generation small-block V-8 GM has announced it is investing $890 million to develop and manufacture.

GM has confirmed the new small-block V-8s will feature aluminum blocks and heads, direct-injection, and a new combustion system. Our sources say the C7 engine will displace 5.5 liters, with a target output of about 440 horsepower.

The new small-block will retain a traditional overhead-valve layout, ensuring compact dimensions and lower manufacturing costs. Prototype engines reportedly are already running on test beds in Detroit.

That idea of a drivetrain swap keeps getting more interesting.

I'll quote myself for a reply:

In other words, don't assume their info is correct.

General statements and projections are fine ... just don't claim any details. More powerful and more efficient than 6.2L's? Expected. A 5.5L making 440 hp ... I'll believe it when I see it.

Well output isn't going to decrease from the current generation Corvette and you can see what can be done with 5L in a non di format...explain to me how it isn't possible?

Its not that I doubt similar numbers can be made. Its more their 'inside knowledge' about the displacement and power numbers. Could be 435 from a 5.3L. Or 480 from a 5.7. Or maybe it will be a 5.5 that cranks out 440. But experience tells me that Motor Trend (or any other magazine) isn't all that good with predicting numbers. I refer back to the 281 hp 2009 Camaro.

Also, we can't forget their predicted Z28:

With a supercharged 6.2L engine making 550 hp.
Then TF2 came out. And Bumblebee got a makeover:

And what does SLP offer, but the ZL575:

Look familiar? It too features a supercharged 6.2L, though it makes 575 hp (L99 based cars do make 550 hp though). Pretty easy for someone to misinterpret what was going on, then blab to MT.

They're assuming it's a 5.5L due to the Corvette C6.R's engine.

Isn't the C6.R limited to 5.5L in the new class?
