For comparision's sake the first run of the 5th gen was also by a performance shop (Henessey) and they got 13.6@108 with a 2.3 '60 time. Now if we use the theory that .1 off your '60 time gives you about .2 in the 1/4 mile. And this Mustang got a 2.1 '60 time. Now if we equal the Camaro's '60 to this Mustang's. Guess what? The run about the same times. The guy driving also said that he was short shifting at 6k rpm, and it shows in the video: 13.4@110 for the Camaro and 13.2@110 for the Stang. As for the DA, im not sure what's it like in Texas during April. But im thinking it would be a bit worse than 300-400 that the stang ran in.

As impressive as the ZL1 was in its day and despite the "larger than life legends" surrounding it, actual engine dynomometer tests of a certified production line stock ZL1 revealed 376 SAE net HP, with output swelling to 524 Gross HP with the help of optimal carburetor and ignition tuning, open long tube racing headers and with no power sapping engine accessories or air cleaner in place. ZL1 DYNO TEST - COPO CAMARO WEBSITE A second engine dyno test conducted on a second production line stock (but recently rebuilt and partially blueprinted) ZL1 revealed nearly identical figures for the various "Gross" conditions. 2nd ZL1 DYNO TEST
Magazine tests of the ZL1 were quite rare due to the rarity of the engine itself. "High Performance Cars" tested a production line stock version in early 1969 and recorded a 13.1 second/110 MPH quarter mile, which correlates quite well with the previously referenced 376 Net HP figure (using the Moroso Speed-Power calculator, which is based on Hale's Trap Speed formula). During the same period, "Super Stock and Drag Racing Magazine" recorded an 11.62 second/122.15 MPH quarter mile in a ZL1 Camaro that was professionally tuned and driven by drag racing legend Dick Harrell, although that car was professionally "tuned" by Harrell's crew and was equipped with long tube S&S equal length headers, 1960s-technology narrow drag slicks and minor suspension modifications. The 122.15 MPH trap speed indicated very low 11 second ET potential (e.g. with larger drag slicks) and suggested something on the order of 495 "as installed" HP in that modified configuration (again using the Moroso Speed-Power calculator). This large difference in power suggests that the OEM exhaust manifolds and exhaust system were very restrictive in the ZL1 application, as was also the case with the similar L88. Claims that "actual output was 575 bhp @7500 rpm when fitted with open, long-tube racing headers, and properly tuned for maximum output" are more urban myth than established fact. If such a figure were indeed obtained, it was likely done so with a fully blueprinted "factory prototype" engine, the specific configuration (camshaft, cylinder head condition, exhaust system, etc.) of which has never been publicly released.

All these engines were essentially hand-built with racing in mind. Combustion chambers were fully machined to reduce variability. Nevertheless, Ford recommended blueprinting the engines before use in racing applications. With a single four-barrel carburetor they were rated at 616 horsepower (459 kW) at 7,000 rpm & 515 ft lbs of torque @ 3,800 rpm, and while equipted with dual four-barrel carburetors they made 657 horsepower (490 kW) at 7,500 rpm & 575 ft/lbs of torque @ 4,200 rpm. Ford sold them via the parts counter, the single four-barrel model as part C6AE-6007-363S, the dual carburetor model as part C6AE-6007-359J for $2350.00 (as of October, 1968). Weight of the engine was 680 lb (308 kg)

a zl-1 is a mighty engine, but to compare it to a 427 cammer and say it wins is rediculous.

i think we can officially call it a draw, this is very good for both party's.
not only we can get upgrades every year, and the mustang wont get halfass below the 40k mark.(gt500) |

Evo's Mustang Dyno might as well be a Dynojet. Even those numbers on a Dynojet are great for stock.

Apparently Evolution Performance has done some suspension work, possibly exhaust work, and tuning and are going back to the track tonight.
They haven't posed the dyno numbers after tuning and what not though. |
