It's going to be a very close race between two sweet cars. Mustang's biggest problem will be that it has a tiny contact patch. Both cars could likely use 305's and pick up much nicer launch.

That of course what aftermaket is for.

The Evolution Performance 2011 GT that ran 13.20 @ 110 and is a production car put down 368rwhp and 352rwtq on a Mustang Dyno with 100 miles on the odo.

Those are not bad dyno numbers at all.

Those are pretty decent numbers for a mustang dyno.

I agree...it's like brand loyalty to an extreme. Personally, I just enjoy muscle cars. I'd drive any of them, have a very good time, and enjoy the hell out of it. Numbers don't mean anything unless you've got the drag strip slips to prove you can do it yourself. Just because you drive a car that can do a "12.8" 1/4 mile, doesn't mean you will ever match that time.

Peak horsepower doesn't come close to telling the whole story. It's the area under the torque curve which provides the acceleration over the rpm range between shifts. The 5.0 Mustang can't match the "area under the curve" of the bigger LS3. Think about it: the Mustang really only has a better power to weight ratio at 6000 rpm and higher.

A lot of new Mustang owners haven't quite latched on to that concept and hence might be in for some disappointment.

those numbers are higher than i thought. I wonder if this is a "texas" (happy numbers) mustang dyno or a real mustang dyno. Those numbers seem to be what you would expect from a dynojet!

I wondered that to. I expected high 340/low 350 range for a Mustang Dyno.

not sure if youre latching on to the concept of gear multiplication.

theres a lot of factors at work here.

the hp curve of both cars are pretty flat in the area that counts most in racing (upper RPMS). The only time low rpm really counts is if youre racing in the wrong gear or in first gear on the launch, though that is dependent in how you launch the car as well.

^ agreeded!! (To a Point)
but a 450 Rwhp H/C car will struggle its ASS off to keep up with a Blowin 450rwhp car of the same make and trans, rear gear. For the simple fact that the torque curve of the blowin motor is FLAT!!! Hell my GTO makes 408 RWTQ at 2100 rpms. Im sure being a cobra owner your well aware of this.

Ever think why a Quad Cab SMoke Blowin Duramax/Powerstroke Halls soo much ass??? TORQUE!!! they might have 400 hp in a 6500+lbs Chassis but 800+ Ft lbs of LOW END Torque gets those mothers rollin!!

face it mustang owners the SS is really faster.

20lbs = .02 in the 1/4 mile. that accounts for the difference.

255/40-19 are not the standard tires. C&D are idiots. 235/50-18. good thing it is a first drive or i'd be worried a car with a better power to weight ratio, better gearing will lose to an SS
You Mustang owners are so defensive. Dont be so angry, we didn't write the article.
