Not if nobody buys your cars because you have that "bankrupt" stigma.:(

If they file Chapter 11, MANY jobs will be lost as GM "trims the fat", the company will shrink to be no bigger than Chrysler, and any dreams of being number one or competing against foreign companies will be dead. There will be no recovery.

If GM does not have the money, the capital, a clean and fast way to go about this, they shouldn't even talk about a merger if their in the the hole themselves

they are acquiring Chrysler to get thier capital.

for the people who said they would close everything. What business sense does it make to buy someone and then close down everything you just bought.

Its been done before. close down most of it and now shoppers who "Buy American" only have 2 choices.

Looks like the US Treasury dept. put the kibosh on it anyway. Chrysler is done in 6 months.

It looks like the Treasury said no to aid with merger.

"With auto sales plummeting globally, analysts say the merger would save the companies billions of dollars in redundant expenses.

But that would also mean tens of thousands of jobs lost. Analysts have estimated that the total job loss in a GM-Chrysler merger could be as high as 90,000."

IF a deal goes ahead, Chrysler and Dodge won't be killed off immediately. Give them 5-10 years to let all the current production runs end. Jeep will survive, always has, always will. If Chrysler is going under, I'd rather them be bought/merge with GM than Honda or Toyota. But I have always maintained that a Ford-Chrysler merger would make the most sense since they less overlap than Chrysler-GM has.

The second they merge I'll be buying a Challenger R/T then.

That being said, they won't kill off the Challenger. It's still a new car and has the hype with it. R/Ts are selling like hotcakes.
