Yes they are dealer installed options. Options that the Manufacturer researched and developed and more importantly still warranty. Ford would be in a VERY VERY easy position to change the supercharger on the assembly of the engine.

Ford designed the Super Pack and offers warranty on it. The next step is just to make it standard. It would not be hard for Ford at all to do this. And they have pretty much hinted at the fact they want to see what the Z/28 will be before they start slapping the TVS blower on the GT500s from the factory.
How so?

Nobody would cross shop a Ram with a Viper.

People would probably start cross shopping Viper powered Chargers/Challengers with Vipers.

You start selling a LS9 powered Z/28 for near the same price as a base Vette and you will probably see Vette sales fall.

it is not my job. Youre making claims that its a huge milestone and im just asking for more proof of it being an actual milestone.

by reading the article it sounds like the ones using the iron block engines will be lighter because of the switch to aluminum.

standard equipment on each car, camaro wins... motortrend had to cheat and add the optional 3.73 gears and track pack to beat the camaro.

of course if we added lower rear gears and sport suspension, they'd be biting their lip.

Good god.

Because Chevy doesn't give the consumer the option for gears then it is cheating.

And their is no track pack option. The suspension is standard on all GTs and a option for people getting the V6 stangs.

The only two performance options are gears and the brembo brake package.

You would probably have to take that up with chevrolet brother.
it's only a $395 option, adding an option to a car is not any kind of "cheating" lmao

No track pack on the GT's it's all standard. also why would a camaro need a suspension upgrade? what's wrong with yours? they handle fine.

The problem is Ford already warranties 660hp versions of the gt500. All they would have to do to destroy the competition would be to add that as a factory option or even just make it standard. As of now, there's no reason to do that because the GT500 doesn't really have direct competition. If GM does build the z28, I would bet on it being a slightly changed LSA. The way the LSA is now, it would just be too easy for Ford to push out of the range of the z28 for minor cost increases.

Options are cheating? If options are cheating we should compare the most basic mustang vs the most basic camaro.

And the stock GT500 can easily go to being 660hp.

I will say that I doubt Ford would go all out with the 660hp package but they still warranty the 660hp GT500 cars so that is on the table. I think Ford would start out slow. They would probably up the GT500 to 605hp and put the ball back in Chevy's court.

And the GT500 is underrated at 540hp, at least for the 2010 models.

I have to say this doesn't make a lot of sense. A 6.2L supercharged V8 will always be easier to add power to than a 5.4L supercharged V8. You can't look at it from one side and claim Ford will add all this power to the GT500 and GM is helpless to compete with the LSA or a variant of it. Ford warranties the 660 hp package because you bought a 50k car from them and added a 8-10k package, so they can afford to, you are basically spending close to 60k. No way will they sell you that car for GT500 base price. What would they sell as an option?

I am not saying GM is helpless at all. I am saying that they need to keep these numbers in their head and plan accordingly.

I seriously hope GM doesn't just take an unchanged LSA from the Caddy and put it in the Z/28. Beef up the internals at least.

Ford warranties the 660hp package because they feel safe that at those power levels with their tune the engine will still last.

True. Also, at some point the current 1.9L Supercharger will be discontinued by the MFG, making the 2.3L the entry point on the GT500 (650HP minimum).
