Evidence is the G8 GT being sold without the manual option because demand wasn't there. But it is first a family car, and performance car second.

But on built-for-performance cars like the Corvette and Camaro? I don't see the manual going anywhere...this article seems like one of those "I feel like talking about it." jobs.

dont see it going anywhere in the camaro or the vette, tho with higher power motors coming out every day, its nice to not have to worry about burning a clutch out.

auto<manual<paddle shift auto

manual is a totally different experience. i don't care if dual clutch is faster i still prefer manual control of the clutch pedal

Continuing the above format, my own formula:
auto<paddle shift auto<DCT/DSG/SMT<manual

It's a close race between DCT/DSG/SMT and manual, though. The manual is cheaper and more fun, while the DCT/DSG/SMT generally produces better results.

Anyway, manuals won't disappear, and they're probably already as rare as they'll be as long as we have reciprocating piston internal combustion engines. They're just too fun. They'll completely disappear when we don't need to shift gears anymore due to a major change in basic engine design.

Manual's almost dead now. I agree it will remain available on any true performance machine. But many new models don't have it because plain and simple it does not sell on most cars. New Mazda6, and new Nissan Maxima, no manual because of low previous demand. Nissan Altima inventory is all CVT, except a manual once and while.

BTW - I always buy manual trans.

manual is not only more fun, but I still believe it's a good theft-prevention. i doubt that people who break into cars are smart enough to drive a stick shift.

I read that somewhere. Most theives just move to the next car. Many cannot drive a manual at all.
