It's ALL about torque, baby! I'd like to see a comparison in the torque curves between the two engines.

Car and Driver used a 2SS/RS ($36,465.00) for the lastest testing.
$3485.00 more than the GT's ($32,980.00) |

I do think an automatic GT will have more of an advantage on a automatic SS though. |

The problem with the Mustang's torque curve is that it's not really a curve...more like two lines joining at a right angle.

You know I didn't even look at the pictures. Good eye. Looks like they were tested together.

If it was all about torque we would all be driving diesels.

Yes I do. I still think its a driver's race (not everyone knows how to get a good time from an automatic), but the Mustang will have a slight advantage.

The manual tranny in the Mustang is geared pretty aggressively. Ford has kind of an MO for that with their manuals they put in mustangs.

It is about both torque and horsepower. Diesels have torque. The Coyote 5.0 has horsepower. The LS3 has both.

That was a bit shocking when I first saw it. I've driven a 2005 GT several times, and that goes to 70 in 2nd with a 6000 redline. I know there are 6 gears now, but that is still a big difference. With that gearing, why could the Mustang only muster a burnout 1/3 as long as the Camaro, with nothing in 2nd?
