Which should come pretty quick now that they aren't making multi-billion dollar payments each quarter.

Still "technically" they can be called Government Motors. Hopefully that changes soon though.

No...they can't. Because that is NOT their name, nor is it representative of how the business is run.

Thank you! LMAO.

It bugs me to no end when people say stuff like that. The government is just an investor - and one that isn't even represented on the board anymore.

I am just saying that people could still call them "Government Motors" because they are still very much owned by the Government.

I have never used the term and never will, but it still applies.

I wasn't saying the government micro-manages GM.

They don't Manage, anything at GM. They just have the deep pockets that has kept GM in business. GM still makes all their own decisions.

They only paid back 13%

As an aside, this thread has very explosive potential..... I'll leave it at that...

The other part was not a loan, but an investment. The government already has that money in the form of stock, and its up to them when they decide to sell it.

Handing out 45 billion or so in bailout loans and then "converting" that to "equity positions" is not an investment.

What do you call buying a 61% stake in a company then? Sure sounds like an investment to me....

The government did exactly what you do when you buy stock. I really don't get why this is so hard to understand.

I call it a takeover... especially when the Federal Government prints the money to do it....

If you put it like that it sounds like there was no bailout, when clearly there was.
i'm glad they are on their way forward and hopefully it stays that way but no reason to sugar coat it.
