The only reason for calling it a Hemi is marketing. I believe it is al least semi hemishperical heads if not fully? Not sure. but wanyways, it's like Ford choosing 5.0 for the Mustangs new displacement. Owners do this too, don't know how many times I have heard the 346ci LS1 referred to as a "350" or the 5.3 truck motor (323 ci believe) referred to as a 327.

Isn't the 5.0L technically like 4.9xxL? Their marketing strategies obviously fail though.

The old pushrod 5.0 was technically a 4.9. Ford at the time had a 4.9 inline six cylinder. That coupled with pure marketing is why they went with calling it a 5.0.

The new DOHC 5.0 is really a 5.0 liter engine, as much as say the LS1 was a 5.7.

I also remember when Chevy changed the big block 396 to actually a 400CID ... but they kept the 396 designation because they also had at the same time a 400 CID small Block.. plus SS396 sounded better than SS 400...

My chick car hasn't lost to one of those tanks yet. I love seeing the Dodge guys cry when the blue pony runs right by them.

Well It was a serious question about why they don't come out with a V6 Hemi if Hemi's are supposed to be so superior... and Dodge does like to promote the Hemi Image as much as possible...
Chevy does not use the "Like a Rock" slogan any more (plus that was just on the trucks), you need to get up to date.. but maybe that was the mindless part of your post...

If I remember correctly, It was for the 1970 model year, The actual engine size was 402CI not 400 but they did keep the SS396 model name...

I found this on How stuff works on the 1970 Chevelle..
Quote:
The wrapper was a restyled Chevelle that again presented the Super Sport as an option package for hardtops and convertibles. As the SS 396, it cost $446 and came with a 350-bhp 402-cid V-8, power front discs, F41 suspension, Polyglas F70x14s, and a domed hood. Fat dorsal stripes were optional, but were included with the new $147 cowl-induction hood, which had a flapper near the base of the windshield that opened at full throttle to feed air to the engine.

IMO, I think most people think 'Dodge V8' when they see/hear the word Hemi. Also, Dodge does not call their V10 motor a Hemi either.
