So the Ford 5-oh comes standard w/ headers? And the Cheby SS LS3/L99 does not? OK, I see where Ford makes some gains there. If the LS3 had headers, (apples to apples) it woud make more hp, right? I agree the math should be basicaly apples to apples on major engine components; if one came stock with a turbo, you would want to know what the other engine would do with a turbo also.

![]() Ford didn't leave too much on the table as far as squeesing more power out of the 5.0. You can always go forced induction on any engine and get more, but with the 6.2, you can get a $hit load more with a cam and some bolts-ons. |

Just a comment, not making any judgement
When I was having my short flirtation with the 5.0 Mustang, the sales manager said, "I can get you 500hp for not much money and Ford's warranty will still cover you. As the lack of a tip auto ended the romance, we never got any further.

I gotta say that's pretty cool of Ford to actually offer warranty-able power upgrade options. I'd love to see GM do this, but I'm guessing Ford does not warranty up to 100K miles?

I mean does anyone really believe a 5.0 vs a 6.2 is apples to apples? We can only go off what the cars come from the factory with. |

The 5.0 might, and the keyword might, respond better do to the heads. It is just the nature of the beast with OHC motors. They love boost. |

honestly i dont really see the the LS3 gettin any better numbers than the 5.4 DOHC when supercharged. Call it black magic or OverHeadCams but the current Ford engines are making excellent power with the superchargers even against larger engines with superchargers. Even the big dollar ZR1 engine with a supercharger upgrade in the Hennesey camaro and hennessey ZR1 makes 700hp at the crank. The GT500 engine with a kenne bell upgrade makes that much too, BUT AT THE WHEELS!

But once you get to that level it is mostly about who has the most money. |

Exactly. My point is both engines are limited only by money. My guess is that the cost for a 200HP bump to the 5.0 will be the same for the LS3 (about $7000 for an SC and tune). Although, I'm still doing my homework, I expect to find that FI on Ford engines is no different than GM engines. You just see a lot more cammed GM engines because the higher displacement yields more "untapped NA HP". If the OHC is better for FI, are there any theories why? |
