The rule around our house is if you wanna buy something new, you gotta be willing to throw something else out. You want new shoes, fine, but when we walk in the door you're picking out a pair of old ones to toss.

That puts a stop to 90% of that crap because my wife typically doesn't wanna get rid of stuff, she just wants more....

This is the exact agreement we have in our house, anything over $100.00 gets discussed. It was $500.00 until she figured out how many firearms are below 5 bills.

Besides, she's my sugar-momma, makes more than I do and puts up with a lot of my crap (i.e.....bringing home stray cars).

That's why I've always kept my money seperate in every relationship.

Makes everything so much easier.

At least for me

I buy whatever I want and the other person does too.

In all seriousness, I think the real reason why women buy excessive amounts of clothes, shoes and purses is to compete with their friends who do the same. Unfortunately, the pressure to "fit in" and be accepted by our peers didn't end once we graduated high school and/or college. It continues into the work place and with our neighbors (keeping up with the Joneses) as well.
Oh so true!! I've spent many years in retail management working in the high dollar boutiques that those types flock to. It is pathetic and nearly laughable to watch it in action. I would also add that some of their spending habits have to do with lack of attention (or that they feel they have to compete for that attention) from their husbands/boyfriends. It's an attempt to fill a void. There's nothing quite like getting yanked into a dressing room to play the roll of their 'shrink' for an hour. It's exhausting! I'm so glad I'm out of that business now.

Thankfully I've never counted myself among those women. Sure I have nice things. But I've always been happiest getting dirty out in the shop or helping my friends with their latest project.

Here is a nice little update.

We are in the car driving back from church, when out of nowhere, she says, "I like that flat stick shifter we saw at the car show. I think you should get that." She is referring to the Barton shifter we saw in another persons car. I asked why she changed her mind b/c when she looked at picture of it and the Hurst shifter, she said she didn't like either. She says that after seeing them, among other things I have showed, on actually cars, she now gets why I want to mod and upgrade the car.

Just read through this whole thread and the only thing I could think about the entire time was "ah, the joys of being single."

I really like the idea of starting to put money aside for all the mods. I'm definately going to starting doing that. My fiance doesn't spend money like the women you guys are talking about, but she really worries about money. She didn't have a lot growing up, so she's a penny-pincher. Fortunately, I've created a few monthly budgets using Excel spreadsheet for her (she's terrible with numbers) that have taken just about everything into consideration. We're getting married in September, so no mods for me this year. Great idea, having a side Camaro Mods account. . .Now if only the banks could fully recover and get me high interest rate Wouldn't that be great, save enough for a supercharger/turbos (take your pick) and earn enough interest to pay for a suspension kit.

I'm the wife with the Camaro and I don't care what he spends on his toys and he doesn't care what I spend. We talk about it if it's a bigger purchase but otherwise we don't care. It works for us and I have all kinds of clothes, shoes and purses to go with my rocken Camaro.
