unless your car is a bum that almost never changes clothes, i don't think that's the best analogy

I have the same issue but its not purses, or shoes or phones, its cars. lol it seems like every 6months or so we buy a diff car or he wants to sell one to get another one lol
9 vehicles for 2 drivers (soon to be 3) is enough

I always feel it's easier to beg forgiveness than it is to get permission... and you don't have to wait to see if she will make good on the bluff.... "I'm going to my mothers or some other goofy thing...."

Fortunately, my wife has none of these issues. she gets what she wants, and I get what I want... but then again, she makes a hell of a lot of money herself, so who am I to tell her she can't get something...

Got the answer-- gather up ALL the unused purses, unworn shoes, all the closet stuff she doesn't pay attention to anymore -- and EBAY IT!! You have the $800 cash in hand in no time -- tell her you were just trying to make more room in her closet for her next shopping spree!

I'm glad I don't have a lady like that. My woman knows that I have my own interests and I'll let her have things and even buy her some handbags shoes on occasion if she lets me spend my money the way I choose.

and to add a little more to this conversation, sometimes the woman can be that voice of reason so you arent spending yourself into debt. I was talking to another member last night and he's been wanting to do a s/c on his car... his wife said "hell no, not right now, we dont have $3000 free cash to spend"

to which he said, "ummm, honey, they are actually around $6000+"

he's not getting the s/c right now. plans are for next summer to have it installed. in the mean time, he's going to do other mods to hold himself over

Not all women are this way. I don't understand the fascination with owning multiple expensive purses, shoes, and clothes either. I own about 10 pair of shoes and one purse which I spent $70 on at Kohls. When it wears out, I buy another one. It's black so it goes with everything.

In all seriousness, I think the real reason why women buy excessive amounts of clothes, shoes and purses is to compete with their friends who do the same. Unfortunately, the pressure to "fit in" and be accepted by our peers didn't end once we graduated high school and/or college. It continues into the work place and with our neighbors (keeping up with the Joneses) as well. I worked 10 years as a paralegal. I felt tremendous pressure to wear the latest new clothes and shoes with matching purses all the time. However, I didn't care what other people thought about my "style". I think you wives don't want you spending money on your cars because it leaves less money they can spend on themselves (and they may have some control issues.)

So my advice is this (to all you men who are not married yet): don't marry women who show signs they are materialistic, shallow or insecure while dating. If your girlfriend looks like she spent a million bucks on herself while you are dating, chances are, she's going to spend a million bucks on herself when she's married to you. If she is controlling your behavior, she will do the same once you are married. Marry someone who has substance on the inside, not just on the outside. Because once you strip away the fake nails, dyed/highlighted hair, fake boobs, expensive purses, shoes and clothes, you may not like the person you discover. And chances are you won't discover her until after you married her; and then, it's too late. You are screwed.

In conclusion, marry someone who is more suited to your interests and who respects them. If they don't respect your interests while you are dating, they won't respect them when you are married. I would never marry someone who told me "enjoy the toys now because once we are married, they will be gone." Sorry, but that is a huge red flag. If you do, you are in for a lifetime of pain and suffering. Life is too short to spend it being unhappy and regretful.

This is true. I've had to pull the reigns on the hubby a few times since I take care of the finances. But we have set a goal on what we want to do to the car and are saving towards that goal.

Wife and I have a deal. When purchases are over a certian amount we consult with one another. If we can justify why it's needed the purchase is usually made. We both live with the decision like it or not. Man you stepped into know danger territory when you started to compare what she buys and uses. Us oldtimes after many bloody battles know what button to push and which ones to stay away from.

So true! A lot of you guys partner up with these shallow little princesses and then expect something different once your married. Grow up! Get what you want and she gets what she wants. Me, I'm getting a new exhaust system for my Camaro, per my request, for Mother's Day!
