Well, considering how the book of traffic laws is large enough to break a coffee table, can you honestly say you know *every* law on the books and don't break any of them?

As a point of fact: the OP wasn't complaining, he was simply posting an article found online (that I've also seen on TV) that stated that as the economy worsens, the "cushion" before you get a ticket disappears.

Sometimes no matter how much you try to obey the speed law, certain things cannot be avoided, Like when there is no warning of a speed drop on a 4 lane highway and you are in the middle of passing a Semi when it blocks your view of the new speed limit sign, you keep traveling along at what you think is the speed limit then next thing you know you are caught speeding...
P.S. my last speeding ticket was in 1977.....

Again, the OP wasn't complaining about anything. Point to where the OP said he got a ticket. You can't. He's talking about a news article talking about the "mph buffer" going away with the worsening economy.

Correctomundo! Give that man a Lollipop! Thank you for reading the post. In fact, I have not received a Speeding Ticket in many years.
I appreciate that many traffic stops for speeding and minor violations often lead to a bigger catch, but I still think there is a lot of 'Revenuing' going on here in SoCal.

There is always a margin of error in radar guns, and you can ask for when it was last calibrated in court. My bet is the cop will be too busy trying to give more tickets than show up in court. This is of course if you are only over the speed limit by a small amount, 5-7 mph at most... I can't see how a judge can agree to that unless they are just ignorant jerks, which they are out there...

Equally likely: A newspaper publishes sensationalistic articles to sell more papers.

Parking tickets are a much larger source of revenue than speeding tickets....no one takes a cut of parking tickets, goes straight to whichever entity writes them.

I work for a large department, 3.2 million would be about 7.5% of our budget, so unless it's a REALLY big department, I find those numbers to be hard to believe

Do you believe everything you read in the media or see on TV? I sure hope not.

A newspaper trying to sell papers? Say it ain't so. But...since it's not the paper that did the studies, I'd wager that it's unlikely they are making the stats up. Yeah, they're reporting on the study -- and people will want to read it -- but it's not like the editor sat there and decided to ask 10 of his friends about their ticket history to use that as his statistics.

Nope. But I don't see every stat as false just because it's in a newspaper either.

just to be clear, I was not trying or intending to say ANYTHING about the op. end of that topic. I made a statement about people complaining about the whole, is it for safety or revenue thing, or at least that's what I intended. and I for one agree that any dept. that uses a ticket quota procedure is really F'd up. around my area, I don't know of a single dept, that does this, well maybe state but zero local.
