SPEEDING!

Speeding 'cushion' may dwindle due to recession:

The recession may be claiming a new victim: the 5-10-mph "cushion" police and state troopers across the USA have routinely given motorists exceeding the speed limit.

This just reinforces the notion that it REALLY IS just about 'revenuing'.

There are several officers who are members here.

My bet: None of them have been told to lower the "cushion" speed.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. It's all about the money these days.

Haven't been told to do anything different....nor will I be.

There's some flawed ideas out there, at least when it comes to my area, regarding tickets and the money flow. Reality is, the coffers of the agency that write the ticket really don't get a big boost...so many others (state, courts etc) take cuts that it's not a large revenue stream.

I have a buddy who just got hired with a PD he was a meter maid for. Well he was telling me that his superior asked him how many tickets he writes a day, and he stated about 12.

He told him that he wanted him to show him what he was made of and write no less than 24, DAILY.

My buddy said he felt so shitty he was writing tickets for the smallest things.
He played me a message that he left him in which he called to see how many tickets he had written so far that day.

Really is F'd

It is ABSOLUTELY a revenue stream.

I was meeting with a Police agency who QUOTE "We make an average of 3.2 Million in Parking tickets annualy".

I am sure Speeding is the same thing.

They WILL find a way to get the money.

Hey they could meet their quota thricefold if they would ticket people for not using signals.

The only time the State mandates citations is for grants in which we participate in, otherwise the department sets policy on traffic enforcement. I personally don't know any departments in my area who mandate a certain amount of citations per officer. Additionally, we see very little of the citation forfeiture money, most of it goes to the court and the state.

Does that mean the research is bogus and the increased number of tickets has been fabricated? My bet: No.

Well two weeks ago during the Bristol race week on one hwy there are those dreaded speed Cameras, according to the news report there were over 500 speed violations caught by the cameras in 4 days... Bluff City, TN has got them a real money maker there at $90 per ticket that means they will get over $45000 in fines...
