I went to see "Hot Tub Time Machine" last night and paid $9 for my ticket. I laughed, because at $9 it's still cheaper than the $12.50 I was paying 10 years ago when I lived in Manhattan.

This post proves my point. In the big cities, people don't really care about the price. In middle america it's different

Movie prices in TN aren't that bad, at least where I am. I still only pay $6 a ticket. Of course, military discount helps out.

I worked at a theater while I was in high school. Movie theaters only make money off of the concessions, that's why they're overpriced. What pisses me off is that a lot of theaters are starting to do away with the free refills.

the expensive theater in town was 8.50 (for students). i avoided it like the plague - more expensive & i had to drive all the way across town. the closer one was 6 for students & 8 regular. i still don't go very much

Regular movie prices here (if I remember correctly) are about $12.50 for adults, $11 with student ID, and I think Imax runs 16 or 17 bucks.

That's at Universal City in LA.

it really doesn't make sense. I'd love to see the profits these places pull in, it has to be ridiculous. Between the price gouging on concessions, the constant deluge of advertisements, and the stupidly priced tickets... SOMEONE is gettin rich.
