Congrats to the Mustang you stepped up however yall need to keep in mind

The Camaro's Testing was done in 33 degree weather

As they say Great for POWER but not so good for gripping the pavement.

The Camaro had a hard time hooking up which showed Both the auto/Manual had troubles there.

WE ALL KNOW ATLEAST FOR THE AUTO'S THAT ISNT A PROBLEM .

oh well claps for Ford you stepped up lol

Now based on my time slips, I've been kind of wondering if I should have been getting better ETs based on 60' times and trap speeds... really makes me wonder now!

Going to be interesting to say the least!
0,96g on the skidpad isnt nothing to sneezed at either....numbers are fantastic....but like the camaro rs and ls you need the bigger package to get mustang gt brakes suspension gearing wheels 255 40 19 which is 2000$ more then the base car....but it handles like a 911 gt3!look at the numbers!its acceleration is the least impressive thing on the list....and the gt gets the job done with 12.8 at 110.8

The following links can be found in the Wiki.

Motor Trend: "The SS manual trails by a mere tenth, but from there its added 26 ponies pull it ahead, tripping the quarter-mile lights in just 13 sec flat at 111 mph."

Car & Driver: "With the six-speed automatic, the Camaro SS can hit 60 mph in a scant 4.6 seconds, with the quarter-mile arriving in 13.1 at 109 mph."

Road & Track: "With 426 bhp and a 3860-lb. curb weight, the car hits 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 13.0 at 111.1 mph."

Popular Mechanics: "We hit 100 mph in 10.74 seconds and the quarter-mile was dispatched in 13.02 seconds at 111.43 mph."

We were averaging 13.0 in our initial reviews and improved from there. I am struggling to find anything citing as low as 12.8. It is fair to give the Mustang the upper hand by up to .2 for now. This is a close race.

yep... but have to agree with SirBrad... the over-stylized face lift of the 2010, especially the rear, killed it for me...

My best ET in the Camaro was an 8.82 at 83 mph—which turned out to be one of the best for the day. Not bad, but in the Mustang, I managed an 8.62 at 86 mph. In the theoretical quarter-mile—and given the traction limitations of the airport’s untreated surface (and no water and no burnouts allowed)—that’s roughly 13.80 for the Camaro and 13.50 for the Mustang.

13.80?

estimated 13.80 1/4 mile for the SS?
not quite accurate...although I expect the 5.0 to be slightly faster than the SS in a drag.

That would be about three tenths faster than the better than the best a Camaro SS can do and would require about 30hp to match assuming that extra power doesn't bring traction issues, a problem which the Camaro's weight is likely to exacerbate at those kind of times. Another 30hp comes out to just under 460hp, throw in another ten to make up for traction losses and you're at 470hp and you're just keeping up.
You're delusional. A magazine isn't going to take the car to a drag strip and pick up 2-3 tenths. At most I can see 1/10th out of any of the mainstream mags. No doubt the owners will get into the mid 12's, but so have SS owners. Look at the trap speeds. If the GT were to pick up 2-3 tenths the traps would be around 113. If GM adds a 3.73 option the Camaro will be back ahead. There is a more usable torque curve on the LS3 and the extra cubes help close the weight advantage which is about 200lbs. The stang isn't in vette curb weight territory, it's still heavy. If you don't want to accept that it's a drivers race in stock form that's your business.

And the V6 comparison is already very interesting, a 13.7 second 1/4 mile run on their first try on an unprepared surface? Wow.
So it works for ford but not GM? The 5.0 comes with mid-length headers from the factory. I imagine it passes emissions, right? It also comes with the same cold air intake that bumped the '10 GT up to 315 hp. So that being said there maybe 5 hp to be had from an aftermarket CAI and maybe 10 from an exhaust. Ford did all they could to get a head of the SS and have succeeded in just edging out last years model. If you GM think isn't going to respond then you're dreaming.

Thus far mainstream auto rags (and Edmunds) are all we have and as such I'm keeping it as apples to apples as I can.
On this point here, when Motor Trend ran 12.9 they did state that car was broken in where as the 13.0 car was not, could be the same for the Mustang, who knows. I can't wait for the first comparision, same day, same conditions that is the ONLY wa to get a decent performance comparison.

That and 44 cents will get the Mustang a stamp... It really dosent matter to me if its a little faster, the Camaro is so much more badass and unique a car than a Mustang in my opinion.
Drive around for 10 minutes, what do you see... 1 Camaro for every 1000 Mustangs.

The best part is the Camaro was built to be compared to itself, the 2011 Mustang was built to be compared to the Camaro.

+1 , this is the reason the camaro went 13.0 during the first tests, all the mags were had the opportunity to make there performance test during less than ideal conditions. but notice that the trap speeds for both cars are exactly the same. it may get a little quicker, but the same is true for the camaro. Every body knows it takes about 5000mile or so fo gm ls engines to breakin, the mustang and the camaro acceleration are exactly identical. personally the gt is where i expect it to be, i am more impresed with the v6 (good job ford). I have been reading this thread, why is it that some people simple refuse to give credit where credit is due is beyond me.
