I've said it many times...When designing the 2005 Mustang, the beancounters had arguments for a long time: Do it right, or do it cheap. They chose cheap.
They have a platform now, that can't even be upgraded like when they added IRS to the previous FOX (Fairmont) Mustang platform. That was part of the argument, that if they stayed with solid rear axle, there would be no upgrades this time. It will take a platform re-design on the 2012 Mustang before they have IRS. It's the answer to maintaining traction in corners, when minor or major road imperfections are encountered. Not skidding sideways, as with solid rear axle cars. As far as horsepower to weight ratios...We gotcha now Ford and Dodge. Thanks for showing us your cards about 2012. Chevy will be BACK with an answer. Hell, GM may OWN Dodge by then. ![]() Unless everyone puts 4's and 6's in everything... ![]() Lastly, I'm a fun-to-drive ho, I'd love a Mustang in my garage. But first give me my Camaro and/or Corvette.

They probably won't do IRS so they can keep the cost below the Camaro.

Good Ford info, thanks.
Ford chose solid rear axle - cool. I choose not to buy one. To each his own. |

and im glad you dont object to the mustang being a Chick Car Quote:
about that. Lets assume Ford makes it to 2011.... From the numbers we've seen from those fine gentlemen who grace us with their speculative information, the 2011 wont even be as fast as the SS... ... 400hp 360lbs Torque< 422hp 410lbs Torque.... Camaro wins. EVEN if the numbers turn out to be right. So what makes you think that ... A. you'll even be able to hang with an SS... or B. That the SS wouldn't have improved by such lengths that ford AGAIN brings up the rear? common mate. either way you loose. |

it already breaches the scales at 3590lbs, give 100lbs for an engine, and 100 lbs for the sake of saftey... NOT COUNTING the 100's of lbs that will be added once ford gets around to developing a 21st century IRS, your already at 3790 which is basically 3800. think of it this way... The GT500 is going to have a lighter engine than the new GT's. what else is in the 3800lb range? oh ya, a Camaro. as for market dominance... i think that died when GM started selling the bottom line V6's with as much power as fords top of the line factory mustang, for 22.9k |
