Well, you can buy shares in Motor Liquidation Company, which is old GM and is destined to be liquidated (so don't hold onto said shares too long), or you can wait for the IPO of new GM's shares which will be when the US, Canadian, and Ontario governments start to sell back their shares.

Don't even bother buying them...even GM's issued press releases telling people to ignore MLC stock.

oh its a bad idea, but it is stock in GM. It should be nearly worthless, but wallstreet doesn't care much about reality.

I've been kind of confused on something. They got 50 billion in loans. How come they only have to repay 6.7 billion in cash?

The government ownership accounts for the rest, more or less. When GM is traded publicly again, the 3 governments will sell their stake in the company, potentially at a loss, potentially for a profit.

Yes, i figured that, just wasn't sure why that was.
Anyway, can't wait for the stock to be offered to get GM away from the government.
If i never hear some idiotic reporter say "we own GM" again ....ugh

Good to see GM in line to make a profit. Good to see the same for Ford. I just hope that Fiat doesn't run Chrysler into the ground.

I believe that Chrysler is going to be run into the ground without Fiat.

Thats what happens when you let Daimler Benz take over for a few years, take the company for all its worth and then sell it off a broken husk.

I suspect Chrysler will survive, just as a small company.

Very optimistic.

I don't hold as much faith but time will tell.

I believe that Chrysler is going to be run into the ground whether it has Fiat or not. They aren't trying at all. Look at what GM and Ford has done in the past years and compare that to what Chrysler's done. Look at what GM and Ford debuted at the auto shows compared to what Chrysler showed off.

Unless Chrysler gets their act together soon, they're pretty much finished.

Sadly Chrysler doesnt have the money that Ford or GM does. They got the short end of the stick when it came time to bail out GM and Chrysler.

When I said I "suspect" Chrysler will survive, its not like I'm betting my life on it. I agree completely that Chrysler needs new products now, something that will get the sales flowing again, and I suspect new Fiats and Alfa's will do just that. That being said, its a bit of a long shot, and if Chrysler does go under, and least there will still be two American car companies in business.

The way I understood it is that they have a bunch of new cars on the way in the next couple of years, and Chrysler just has to hold on until then.
