I'm not disagreeing with you. But when discussing this -- there is an infinite amount of ways a fan of either 'side' can spin it.

Ford fans can cling to what you just said, adding of course its superior power and speed over an SS. And Chevy fans can tout how it's competition for the Corvette given its price range...which is an instant check-mate, because the GT500 pales in comparison to the Corvette.

It's a fun exercise in semantics...but in reality...every car and truck in this industry is competition for every other car and truck. However remotely...but it's true.

oh yea i forgot about that.. i remember when they did that.. everyone had to adjust numbers that year.. the american automakers HP number went up and the import had to lower their advertised numbers. haha

What is the Shelby GT350 rated at? It is the 5.0 with a S/C...I think they had a goal of 500hp in mind with the whipple, from what I have read.

yeah estimated 500 to 550hp on i think it was 6lbs or 8lbs of boost.
shelby claims that no modification were done to the internals.

The competition heats up with the Ford Mustang GT

So Apparently the new Mustang GT gets 17/26MPG and has 412 HP. With that power to weight ratio. I'm sure the Camaro has some stiff competition! The mileage is what really surprised me though!

Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds depending on driver inputs. A carefully tuned intake and exhaust system ensures free breathing at all engine speeds. And all-aluminum construction results in a lightweight yet durable powerplant.

A pair of new transmissions, both with six forward ratios, also play a large part in making the 2011 Mustang a breakthrough car. Regardless of whether drivers want to shift for themselves or let the car shift for them, they're treated to carefully chosen gear ratios to maximize fuel economy while still delivering high-horsepower performance

"Mustang powertrain development has reached a point where customers don't have to choose between fuel efficiency and performance," says Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Global Powertrain Engineering.
