Probably like a cast iron skillet. Light coat of vegetable oil and let it cook on at a low heat for awhile. Been awhile since I've done it though. Look up some cast iron cookware and you can probably find better directions

+1

Peanut oil works good or even some shortening if you have that.

the good season takes time, lots of cooking and no harsh washing.

The Al Bundy way, "Ashes of the past for burgers of the future!"

You're never supposed to use soap on cast iron and you're never supposed to leave it without at least some sort of oil/fat coating... If you do, it will rust. But personally, I don't like to have my skillets seasoned. I don't want my pineapple upside down cake tasting like bacon because I 'seasoned' by cooking bacon in it. I so I wash them between uses and coat them with fresh oil when I store them. Don't use spray oil either because the propellant leaves a film.

The same can be applied to grills, of course, since you probably won't be making many desserts on the grill, it probably wouldn't hurt just to leave the meat fat on the grill to prevent rust...
