When is racism funny?

When it’s done in a respectful tasteful way where you don’t feel you need to look around the room before you laugh.

And on that note, run down to the video store and rent Blazing Saddles today.
Laugh out loud and don't feel guilty, there jokes.

ive heard some funny jokes everyone laughs at but i didnt really get the humor in that one it sounded like my grumpy old grandma when i was little

What brought this up, rumors of a “negative” version is suppose to be in the works. Role reversal.

And you need to rent the DVD to watch the extra stuff to get it; Mel does a good job of explaining it and why it was an acceptable hit comedy movie, not a raciest slant movie. Its more an ignorant inbred look at dumb whittey movie, like how everyone’s last name is Johnson.

As even when it was made, it would of not been allowed if it was meant to be mean in the wrong way.

You have to look past the language and see that its a racist slant movie on dumb rednecks, its why the jokes are funny.

Which if I remember correctly, was the reason they did not go with Richard Pryor for the sheriff's role. I think the cartooney nature of most of the gags helped offset all of the pejorative terms in that movie. Then again, it was meant to shock--it's Mel Brooks! That movie was the "Something About Mary" of it's day--but somehow it's aged better.

I 100% agree with you (although I'm a mix of white and hispanic), but if you watch that clip in the context of the movie, it seems a little less vulgar.

Blazing Saddles is an amazing movie. I watched it when I was younger and just didn;t get it. Now that I'm older and realize the entire movie is a poking fun at racism I find it hilarious.

And as said earlier...IB4TL!

Richaer Pryor was a writer on this movie, he did most of the parts for Mongo.
[He wrote that line, Mongo is just a pawn in the game of life part.]

Now he wasn't in the history of the world movie as he was to messed up on drugs n booze but Mel wrote that role just for him.

Thats where you miss the joke, like that 17sec clip, its not a racist movie on black people, its a racist movie on dumb redneck whitteys who talk like that.

The crude language is needed to make it funny, but its not the focus of what makes it funny.

Gotta study comedy more I guess to see past the vailed thin layers.

Like that Dave Chappelle skit where he’s a blind black guy who thinks he’s white and is the leader in the white surpremist movement. And when he is finally told and accepts that he is black, he divorces his white wife of 30 years for being a BLEEPER lover.

And just like Blazing Saddles, yes its true, some folks may think its funny for the wrong reasons, but its done to point out the absurdities of racism by flipping you on your head. Where the right response is to laugh, anyone who takes offense missed the joke and needs to learn to enjoy life better and laugh at our faults, as they become easier to over come that way.
