You know what was shown on tv sunday? Saving Private Ryan. When was the last time Shakespeare in Love was shown on tv ? That's what won the Oscar that year. I'm not against the Hurt Locker. I'm saying there's a trend every year, more and more and more, that whatever wins is so artistic, that the general public doesn't hardly see it.
They do tend to favor art over entertainment... Even though I'd consider Saving Private Ryan to be one of the best movies of all time. Screw Shakespeare, i'd have pulled the Bullshit card on that one.

However, the Hurt Locker was far and away the best movie of the past year. I strongly suggest you see it.

I agree... except that its not a political movie. Its about a politically sensitive subject but has no clear political stance... Its more about the addiction to war and how small the line between life and death is.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean that its great. The vast majority of people like the same formulaic stuff time after time, just tweaked a little bit so that its new enough. That is how popular culture works and it doesn't really matter if its popular movies, popular music, or popular TV shows. So for those that can present something innovative, beyond a change in setting, yet still have some mass appeal I think they should be rewarded.
