As has been shown, I'm not anywhere near an expert on that car. We can only guess what the SS will have in the slalom and claims for skidpad go from high 80's to high 90's so we don't have a really good idea there either. But I'd be shocked if the 370Z couldn't beat both.
Cornering has alot to do with alot. specific i know...

Braking power going into the corner, slalom, skidpad, weight distribution, weight in general, and then high rev acceleration to pull out of the corner.

In the straights the Camaro will tear it apart, but i know if i was lining up against a 370z on a real track, i wouldn't be feeling very good at all.

I just read on Autoblog the 3.7L VQ engine will make 350hp in the Z. It's 330 in the G37 coupe, and now there's a new G37 sedan.

Maybe DI is coming later. 370Z is being shown at LA auto show next month.

Curious that you would feel that way...I'd be willing to bet an SS could confidently out-drive a 370z in the straights OR on a real track. But for sure, we'll have to wait till both cars get whipped around a track to say for sure...

You should consider the roughly 1000lb weight advantage the 370Z has over the Camaro SS.

I just did the math,

370Z power to weight ratio is 9.0lb/hp (guessing it has 330hp and weighs 3000lbs)

Camaro SS power to weight ratio is 9.4lb/hp (422hp and 4000lbs)

The SS should be truly worried, in the corners AND straits.:(

You really think the Z will come in with that good of a power to weight ratio?

Im not saying your wrong, but autoblog is a speculative website, and i got the 'D/I' thing from another speculative website. Until the numbers come out, all you can do is speculate.

Someone made the argument before that 'the SS should be able to take the 370z because it handed the 350z a 6 second defeat on the Ring'

the 350z came out late 2002. that was six years ago... In my opinion if the SS didn't beat the car around the track it would be a huge failure.

so.. Yes... it doesn't take a lot of deductive reasoning to assume the 370z will outdo the SS on a track if the 370 is supposed to be competitive with the Cayman.

Cayman > SS

370z > Cayman

370z > SS

(all speculation )

Agreed. I enjoy speculating, and hearing others speculations.

If they do end up with the 350 hp engine you suggested, it is predicted (by a less than credible calculator) the 370z will do 0-60 in 4.3-4.4 seconds. ouch.

now before people jump on the "well that is BS its not accurate" bandwagon, it predicted the Camaro to do 0-60 in 4.6-4.7, which is probaly a pretty good guestimate.

The Z will be on my list of cars to drive this spring when I'm buying. I will also be looking at the Genesis Coupe and perhaps the Solstice coupe, but it's a bit small.

Come on Spring!

I'm not sold on any vehicle until I can walk around it, inspect it and most importantly drive it. All the reviews I've read so far have been great though. Hopefully the first V8 reviews will be out soon.
