I will be waiting for Z28 although after reading your post and agreeing with alot of what you said, who knows if it is the right move? My bro is a Mustang guy and I always liked the Camaro. Although the new Mustang is nice in my opinion, especially the new GT500. I gained alot of respect for Ford in the last year or so I like what they are doing and the "evolution" process as you put it. Even though they really stiffed their 2010 buyers with the 2011 Mustang across the board every company has done that at some point. GM has done it numerous times with the Vette. I think that Ford had to bring out a fresh body so that something new was on the lot once the Camaro hit dealers.

Although it didn't work since Camaro is outselling the Mustang. But that is for two main reasons: 1. It is the newer hot item right now, Camaro has been gone for 7 years and now people are gitty it's back! 2. I think alot of people anticipated a big change for the 2011 Mustang knowing it couldn't compete with the Camaro the way it was. So as soon as the 2011 Stangs hit showrooms I expect the numbers to start being more even with both cars swithcing sales every other month.

I just hope history doesn't repeat itself where the Camaro is just a fad now that dies once people are over it. The Mustang I think will outlast any car unfortunately it's the original pony car/muscle car depending on who you ask. And it has the most support around the world and has been more influential and is the automotive world's largest icon according to multiple reports. I will keep a close eye on this GT500 it seems like it will be tough to beat!
I completely agree I think once the 5.0 hits the streets sales will rise and the new V6 is nothing to snooze at. This is a heated battle beween our brands. Although I love and respect GM and used to hate Ford. Ford has years on the Camaro due to the fact they never had to stop production. But once GM can continually get their feet wet with the Camaro they will catch it up it shouldn't take long. Next model update GM will have a neck and neck race with Ford but just remember to be patient that GM is behind Ford in time right now. But yeah I am not the normal Ford fan I respect GM! So I am what I advertise

I do think the 6.4 will be a good option if it gets at least 500 HP. Since it will also be used in the CHarger, 300, and the HD trucks there shouldn't be much of a price increase which should give it a 7-8k price advantage over a GT500 or Z28. THis could get very interesting folks! What a great time to be a car lover!!!!!!
That's the problem with any car that shares a platform with a family or luxury sedan. Same with the Camaro. It is easy to shed weight but when your sharing parts and materials it is more cost effective to just leave it and build what you can. I think when the Chally weighs thatmuch you need to do more than 500HP which it might. But it should get interesting it would be nice if Dodge did join our party!

So my point was that on the '10 I thought thinner stripes would be better because I didn't like the way they looked on the new shaped rear end. It wasn't the actual size of the stripe just the way it looked on the newly shaped body that was my problem with it.

But as usual I wouldn't expect anything less than a critical comment from you as your first post to this thread.

I agree man! I thought for some reason the stripes looked to thick on the new body. It's the different shape of the rear fascia on the GT500 that can make you thibk the stripes overpower it. The thinner stripes I think are a very classy look to the already awesome GT500!

So when is this Z28 going to come out and give my GT500 some competition? But seriously does anyone know if this car should be out soon. I know Motor Trend says late 2011 as a 2012 model but who really knows? Motor Trend had the V6 and SS coming out for years until it finally did in 2009!

Hard to tell? I beleive it or not have no bias towards either as a previous 5th Gen. Camaro owner and now a 2011 GT500 owner in waiting. But I'm going to say it's a driver's race. IT wouldn't shock me either way. But with the 5.0 GT weighing in at under 3600 lbs with 412 HP (versus) the SS 6-Spd weighing in at just under 3900 lbs with 426 HP, I'm gonig to have to say that magazines will probably get the 5.0 GT to clock in better acceleration numbers. Not by much but there is not enough extra horses in the SS to make up the weight in my opinion but I could be wrong. The 5.0 GT also should have a 3.73 rear which helps it altoguh the '11 Camaro was rumored on an older thread here to be getting one too, don't know if it's true. But handling as long as the 5.0 GT has the Track Pack it will be better than a SS for now!

I'm curious as to why you think the Camaro is behind the Mustang. In what way? It's not hp, it's not sales, so I'm just curious as to your parameters. Oh, I am not being a smart ass, you know how this internet thing can be. I really just want to know your thoughts.

I hear you! It's pretty sad when the enemy is begging for you to come. It's probably because we can't wait for the slaughter! Just kidding I think it will only help the pony car battle to see Ford and Chevy both have 3 models to compete and hopefully Dodge goes on a diet and joins the battle! Right now dodge can't even compete to lose the war!

I agree with you dude! I always think GM has their head up their @ss sometimes. They really should have this car announced officially already but as usual they will be late to the party. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for tis as usual! The truth is the car is ready from what we've heard it's just a matter of the funds to produce the Z28. But I believe it will be here in a year and a half. Call me nieve! The truth is even with it coming out in a year and a half that is still too long. When the 2005 Mustang came out it only took a year for a GT500 to appear, and that was without competition and a non-competitive market. The truth is Chevy and Dodge knew what they had for competition but only brought two knives to a 3 knife fight!

And as for you Cobra_Commander I've goit to say you are a breath of fresh air here on these boards. You make having the enemy on here fun. You poke fun sometimes but you aren't biased and you can see both sides of the picture. I'm glad to see a civilized Stang I mean Cobra fan on here!

Why thank you. I appreciate the comment! But.... Without trying to be too critical, you said Chevy and Dodge came to a 3 knife fight with only 2 knives. The truth is Dodge came with 3 knives: the V6, the R/T, and the SRT-8. Granted they are 3 dull knives to Chevy's 2 piercing knives, but they are still 3 knives. Sadly Dodge will have to have 4 knives to compete in this 3 knife fight. Even then if they bring out this 6.4L with 500 HP it still won't be enough to compete it seems by the time it's out. So lets just say or hope for argument sake that the 6.4L Hemi is good for 500+ HP in the Chally.

Than I wonder if the plan for Dodge is to ditch the 6.1L Hemi and replace it with the 6.4L Hemi? Or is the R/T going to lose the 5.7L Hemi and get the 6.1L Hemi and the SRT-8 will get the 6.4LHemi? That would make the most sense actually! Because than Dodge could beef up their crappy V6 and make it more competeitve to the Ford and Chevy. Have the R/T get the 425 HP 6.1L Hemi, which right now is in the GT and SS' class of 400+ HP. And finally give the SRT-8 the 500+ HP 6.4L Hemi and let it compete with the big boys, because we know the GT500 is 550 HP and the Z28 is 550+ HP!

Oh The Possibilities...

No offense taken. And great points I never thought of all of this! You really are quite the thinker. That brain never quits I suppose? But I think the idea of Dodge beefing up thier V6, the R/T getting the 6.1L, and the SRT-8 getting the 6.4L makes the most sense for two reasons. 1. It makes Dodge look smarter and it would be more cost effective than having 4 models. 2. It would make my original point not look as bad when I said Dodge brought 2 knives lol!

Thanks! And isn't it funny how this thread was started to talk about just how bad @ss the car I'm getting is and now we are talking about what Dodge should be doing with their Challenger lineup? So back on topic... The Ford Shelby GT500 is the greatest pony car ever!
