As the available powertrains in this Industry become more and more diverse...I think we'll see less emphasis put on the number of cylinders so long as the car performs (be it in a race or at the pump). It's already happening: who in their right mind would've bought a 4 cylinder SUV 10 years ago?

We've got 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, 10 cyl, Diesel 4s, 6s, 8s, electric, and any hybrid of them...soon fuel cells will be added to the mix, too. It sure will be interesting!

Agreed, I was more concerned with the Hp for the weight of the car. I wouldn't mind a 4 banger as long as it performed and that was the biggest motor available for that car.

number of cylinders will still count. I would gladly take a detuned 3.6L DI over the 2.0L turbo potentially offered in the GS, even though they put out similar numbers. There is good reason why luxury cars commonly come with more cylinders, even if you could get the same displacement with fewer. 2.5L V6's vs an I4, 5L V10's vs a V8, 6L V12's vs a V8 or V10. Similarly, I'd rather have a 5.3L gen V V8 Camaro over a turbo 6 of similar output. There are just aspects of bigger engines with more cylinders that can't be replicated with forced induction or hybrid powertrains.

Few people outside of us (enthusiasts) have that connection anymore. Sadly, more and more people don't open those hoods, and don't care to. Warrantys are longer than they ever have been, and engines are more complicated than ever.

very true, but the driving experience is different and there are plenty of areas where that is still important, even if the buyer doesn't know what exactly they'd like. They don't need to be an enthusiast to know that a turbo 4 doesn't sound nearly as nice as a V6, and doesn't feel as nice either. Will this matter in mass market midsize sedans? Probably not. A luxury car? maybe. A sports sedan? Probably. A luxury sports sedan? Yes.

New Regal GS

I saw the new Regal GS at the Chicago Auto Show, real sharp looking 4dr Sport Sedan, definetley smaller the previous Regal/GS.

The 2.5 Boxer in the STi's feels just like a Grand National motor the way it pulls and It sounds better than any V6 I have ever heard.

That car will be fun with that engine and AWD. My DD is a Cobalt SS with the same engine and with a tune only it'll go 12's and is a blast to drive.

A tune alone really woke up my turbo Cobalt SS. It made 251 WTQ / 256 WTQ stock. See the graph below, check out the torque difference!

They are cool for what they are and will take a ton of abuse. I beat mine like I stole it daily and it gets high 20 (27-28mpg) in the city and 32+ on the expressway!

Here is my graph from only a tune. We tuned it the day I got it, but I think once the weather warms up, we're going to throw some more at it..

This one time... on a closed course :secret: I raced our G8 GXP when it made 410 RWHP from a roll 55-60ish - 120 mph and it couldn't pull away from me.
