my husband is going to be out on the front porch cleaning a gun while my son comes from the back yard saying "Pa dont know if we can fit anymore back there the back yard is almost full" lol

of course with her being a brown belt in martial arts it will help as well

This reminds me once when I lived with my folks my sister brought a new guy over and I was cleaning my SKS in the basement which while I removed the bayonet, it has a sniper scope and a fiberforce stock so it looks pretty freekin badass. They walked down to the workshop and saw me and I heard him say "uhh.... he looks busy maybe I should meet him later..."

Please don't take this the wrong way, but there's a huge difference between 14 and 17 at this point. I don't think I would be taking it as well as you if it were my daughter (who is goint to be 18 next week, but was not allowed to date at 14). I'm sure if you and your wife approve, he must be a nice boy.

Come on......I was 17 when I dated a 13 year old. We all know the girls are much more "grown up' than a boy. We dated for 4 years and she was 17 when we married.
Had our 1st son 7 years later.

36 years later all is fine.

You never know...you may be saying hello to a future SIL.

My wife just saw this .....she said " good for Steph! "

I do regret saying this to you. So, I tell you this: I remember, everyboy that took an interest in one of my girls... I'd tell them... Son! I owe a gun and a shovel! I really doubt anybody will miss you. ( lol inside..) They soon moved on... (I know, I took the grief then...) Now, my girls. all in there mid 20's and all married to fine hard working men. And now they (my son in laws) understand, why I told them my gun story. They have daughters of there own. To demand, is not an option. We must demand, better for our children and our grandchildren!

If I could pass along any advice. It would be, Family always, always come first...

I have to agree with the above poster... really???? he is 17??? where i'm from .... if an 18 year old is involved with a person under 18 there is a problem....(I say this because Steph is under 16, and he sure as hell will be over 18 before she is..) I highly suggest you nip this in the ass before it gets to be a problem... let's say he turns 18? my girlfriend's sister has a daughter who turned 15 last year, she was seduced by her "friend" an 18 year old male and ended up being "made a woman" in his truck bed..... problems can come from this, especially in this day and age... please, Scott.. nip this now.

Guys I am in a bit of a hard spot being the Step Dad. I did with my wife behind our closed bedroom door object. He does seem nice and I have taught Steph what kick, hit and punch if needed to drop him in a second. Some of you that are new here also might not know she is lucky to be alive being within weeks of dieing from cancer.

We have faught that battle for over a year starting January 21st 2009. She is alive still and I want her to also enjoy life for what time she does have with us and on earth.

This does put my wife and I in a hard place and I do not like the difference thing but she had fun and he is coming over to hang with us today.

Scott, regardless if they’re one.. fourteen.. or twenty, it’s difficult watching our children take every first step. This is one boyfriend, there will be others and I’m sure you and your wife will be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Give yourself some credit for the good parenting you’ve done up to now, and trust what you’ve taught Steph about “dating rules”. All things considered, she deserves the opportunity to date the boy and show you she can follow those rules. Just keep their other “opportunities” limited.

Also found out he is ROTC. Good for him!! They met thru our Catholic Youth Group. He is a friend of one of the kids in the group. He lives in Abbieville which is 20 miles south of our town. He found out more about Steph watching her crazy Tha Shiz movies on YouTube.
