Ahhhh....but we've got an ace up our sleeve. They can't ban a Union Made car. We just pull the Obama card out and say "King's X" and they can't touch us.

I believe that would be the time for the revolts to initiate and the anti-government riots to start.

Nightmare of an engine..... and GM continued the lineage of the iron duke well into the 1990s.... the 4 cylinder models in cars like the Beretta, Cavalier, Celebrity....

Nasty engine.
They weren't that bad. My first car (1988 olds cutlass calais) had one. I sold it with over 220k miles on it, only had to put a timing belt in it, at 170k miles. Deffinately got my moneys worth.

Now performance...thats another story!!

Its not that simple and thats why this fear of V8's dissapearing is highly unfounded. There are engineers working on stuff like this every day, and while things could get hinky for a while we won't be losing V8 cars. Look at F1, every year they restrict the cars more, and every year the lap times continue to be the same or faster, even with less aerodynamics, smaller contact patches, and 200+ less horsepower!

When I read about GM closing their V-8 R&D facility it makes me wonder about the future of V-8's. When I read about CAFE being raised it makes me wonder about V-8's. The reason that the US automakers started making the cars in Canada was to have them declared imports so they could be averaged in with their smaller imports to meet CAFE standards. My 87 Camaro was built in Anaheim CA. My 98 and 02 were built in St Therese Quebec. As we know, our gen 5's were built in Oshawa.

LOL… yeah, I'm going to have to call foul on that, too. My first car was a 1975 Mustang II with the 302 (5.0L) V8 and it had a whopping 130-140 HP. It was a thirsty dog that felt about as stable as a bowling ball balanced on a toothpick and got AT LEAST 3 or 4 MPG. That was the BIG motor, not the80-something HP 4 cylinder (similar to the Iron Duke.) The only saving grace for the Mustang II was that Jill Munroe (Farrah Fawcett) drove one on Charlie's Angels. The M-2 also has the distinction of making a lot of car magazines' hall of self-shame for declaring it an award winner. If I recall correctly (can't find proof) the Mustang II also sadly saw the highest production numbers for ANY Mustang EVER.

Truly a dismal era for the automotive world. I also had a 79 Cutlass with the 260 cu in V8 (about 4.2 liter) that produced 95 HP. Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad.

My 86 Z28 made a whopping 215hp. I thought it was quite fast compared to the 84 Fiaro 4banger I had.

Years back I had an Iron Duke S-15 for awhile and that thing was just terrible with that engine probably being the low point on what was just a terrible truck (to be fair the price was right and it did manage to last 200k as a work truck). That thing shouldn't even be in the same sentence with the current Ecotec, particularly the 2.0T that puts out two or three times the power.

With that in mind the fact is that every time someone asks for the Camaro to drop a few hundred pounds they are asking for a base turbo four. It's not much of a stretch to think GM might bore out the 2.0T to 2.4T for for around 300 horses. Of course they'll still offer a good old V-8 for many years to come for those with those that crave horsepower and/or that traditional muscle car.

On a related note that writer is a goofball, he has some legit contenders for a worst 40 ever but went off the rails getting to 50.

1909 Ford Model T, ok not the nicest but it was the world's first econo-car, not a Cadillac.
1980 Corvette 305 "California", worst Corvette ever but it was still a piece of art even if the engine was strangled.
1986 Lamborghini LM002, most ridiculous maybe, worst not a chance.
1995 Ford Explorer, childish suv ranting continues.
1997 GM EV1, ok as a car it was terrible but I wouldn't include it since it was only an engineering exercise that leased cars and they didn't try to sell them.
1997 Plymouth Prowler, not on my best ever list but putting it on a worst list is just silly. Unique styling, 250 hp, 2838 lbs
2000 Ford Excursion, childish suv ranting part III.
2003 Hummer H2, cry more, suv rant part IV.
2004 Chevy SSR, the SSR badly needed to launch with the LS2 to have a chance at making a good, fun first impression with an unusual idea but not worst ever bad.

Also several of the luxury cars on the list don't seem to fit the worst ever but in the context of their category and price an arguement could be made for listing them.

The first new car I ever bought was a Citation X-11 1980 model. Biggest POS I ever owned! Horrible dealer experience and horrible car. Engine issues from day one and the dealer could never get it right.

It really caused me to steer clear of GM for many years.

Now I love my Camaro, we also have a 2004 Tahoe and it's been one of the best car's/truck's we've ever owned too.

I know a girl that had one of the Firebird versions in high school as a birthday present. It got her a lot of attention until everyone found out it was a 4 banger. Funny how so far nobody knows someone with the Camaro version.

Congrats, you got one of the 10% or so that were built and engineered properly.

My Dad had a 1991 Cutlass as well, same engine as your car..... at 75k miles he got rid of it because the rear main seal blew wide open and oil spewed out, left puddles in the driveway, and all over the exhaust manifold. It was fun when you put the A/C or heater on too. And yes, he did take care of it, having the oil changed every 3k miles and didn't drive it hard.

Bought a '96 Honda Accord and is on his 3rd Honda now.
