I've done no research at all on the Viper that pulled up beside me. What are the specs on it? I admit, it really had me drooling.

Every viper ever made is faster than a 2010 camaro stock for stock. Doesnt really matter which year. I think the 1992 or 1993 when it came out had something like 400 hp and 460 torque with like a 3300lb curb weight or so. Then they went to 450hp then 500hp and now i think around 600 or so!

!!

That's why I love my little LLT v6. The torque curve is flat, from right off idle till about 5200rpm, it stays right in it's meat and potatos area. AFter about 6k is where it really drops off to it's 7k redline, however, from about 5200 to 6100, the car is really making horspeower for that top end finish! So it's all good, at least IMHO and my dyno sheets, lol.

I've had this happen to me, only not in my Camaro, but rather on my old NightTrain. With it's cammed up, bored over motor, I wasn't intimated at all, although I knew there was no way I could take him topend. Him being on my right did put him in the line of fire for my Samson RipSaw no baffled exhaust, and you can bet he got an ear full!!

After reading most of these posts I've come to realize that if you bought some V8 American kick ass muscle, hats off to you. We're all part of a club of enthusiasts with a passion for cool looking cars with a 1/2 century of history that can rip ass on most other cars out there (equally priced or more). I see how we treat each other across makes as more of playful rivalry and less of "omfg i effing hate him cause he drives X make!" Just today I pulled up along side a gt500 and we went at it for a couple blocks (nothing stupid), and who cares who got to the next light 1st we were both excited and smiling (That's what she said).

Now when a honda civic si pulls up all fast-and-furioused out with the coffee-can exhaust that sounds SO SO Damn loud and horrible ("WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee")... I have no problem tearing that little thing a new one leaving the little teen driver with a sense of inadequacy and "dammit i poured 5 grand into this thing."

You drive a challenger
mustang
or camaro
- you're good in my book.

I understand what you're trying to say but if a car makes 750 rwtq at 4500 rpm, it will most likely be making ~600 rwtq at 3500 or so unless you are talking about some really horrid boost lag and some really horrible drop off after 6000 rpm.

Even then, in the example you set, I'd have to go with the 750 rwtq (857 rwhp @ 6000 rpm) car rather than the 600 rwtq (742 rwhp @ 6500 rpm) car. That 1500 rpm window you give the 750 rwtq car is all you really need if the car is geared ok.

There has always been a rival between both cars since back in the 60's, but people are always going to state their opinion of why they like the Camaro or the Mustang. I love my Camaro and some Mustang owners like my Camaro also. I guess you can say it's just a love/hate relationship for Camaro and Mustang Owners, We love OUR Camaro's and they hate them, and Vice Versa

Yeah, I just pulled those example numbers out of the air. Seeing as you got the point of what I was trying to say, I'm okay with the fact that they were a poor example.

Up till 96 they are going to be pretty even, but good luck finding a 92-95 Viper at the track that's stock. I've read anywhere from 13.2-12.9 on an early Viper.

Just so you know, This doesn't count as a "Camaro" thread...

According to that second article you quoted the viper was trapping 114. Faster than a new camaro. I have read of mid to low 12 second passes out of those cars in the proper hands.

The car is 3300lbs and has 400hp and 450tq. That is like saying that a new camaro can take an LS2 vette. Not going to happen. Just look at the power to weight.

But if what you mean by "pretty even" is losing by a few cars on average then yeah I could agree with that.

There was an early 90s Viper at our local 1/8 mile running mid 8s. That would be low 13s or so in the 1/4 mile.

Motortrend Magazine times
1993 Dodge Viper R/T 10 (400 hp) ran 13.2 @ 112 mph
1995 Dodge Viper R/T 10 (415 hp) ran 13.2 @ 113 mph
1997 Dodge Viper GTS (450 hp) was tested 3 times
12.9 @ 116 mph
12.4 @ 117 mph
12.2 @ 119 mph
