How do you figure the playing field is fair when Japan imports say 12 vehicles to the U.S. and we go thru hell to export 1 to thier country for sale ???

You don't see the Japanese market filled with F150'S or Silverado's, do ya !!!

Well, I don't think full size trucks would be all that popular in Japan. But small and midsize cars on the other hand ...

I was specifically talking about the perception gap here in the United States. GM/Ford haven't really had to deal with that perception problem outside of the U.S., except for Europe.. where they are just out and out (and admirably) loyal to their own industry, which includes GM Europe and Ford Europe because they have been building cars there for almost a century.

The BULLCRAP comes in, yes, when U look at exports to Japan and other "protected" nations.

Then you're not talking about levelling the playing field. Maybe filling in one little hole, while ignoring 3 or 4 others.

Yes.. I am. The largest issue with the playing field was BS perceptions about the Foreign makers making superior bullet-proof vehicles over the Domestics.

This has been proven ONCE AGAIN.. false, but this time on a large scale.

The TRADE issue is a problem that needs to be addressed on the Political front so that it will help all AMERICAN industries.

Woman here...actually I looked at the Cobalt,Aveo(gas mileage) ,Scion,Challenger,Camaro and Mazda RX8.VW had there issues back in the past but after alot of reading about the VW MK5 GTI...it was the better car for me.I was stationed in Germany when I was in the Army.Got a Golf VW to zip around,it was a beater but never left us stranded in Frankfurt after club hopping...

As far as looks I get alot of compliments about my little "pocket rocket".
You don't see alot of GTI's around here and I have no problems keeping up with the big boys on the highway....... feels like I'm back on the autobahn.

Have fun with this Toyota conspiracy-ists

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35293626/ns/business-autos

"WASHINGTON - The lawmakers now investigating Toyota's recall include a senator who was so eager to lure the Japanese automaker to his state that he tramped along through fields as its executives scouted plant sites, and a congresswoman who owes much of her wealth to a Toyota supplier... "

It's shocking isn't it? Who would have thought something like that could happen in America.
