Why???

A Turbo-V6 is not a bad thing since the original Vette in 1953 was a 6banger... but most have forgotten that, and the V8 has been more or less a staple of the Vette's existence afterward. I'm guessing a 3.6L Turbo with at least 430HP as a base, but an optional 475HP 5.5L (set to debut at 12 Hours at Sebring next month) V8 in a GS type model. The Z06 as a "Stripper"/Track Ready vehicle, along the lines of the Porsche GT3 and Viper ACR... with a 550HP V8, and the ZR1 pushing 700HP.

I'm loving the idea. The more choices the better. On top of that... a lighter Vette, say at 2900-3000lbs, with a 430HP/430lbs could whip an LS3 powered Vette handily.

Wow, if the C7 looks similar to the concept, GM finally green lights the 5th gen LSA Z28 and a new lighter 6th gen comes out around 2015 I will have a huge dilemma on my hands when the SS gets paid off. If they make it look like the stingray concept then for the first time in my life GM will produce a Corvette that I absolutely have to have. That car is amazing. 2900lbs, 5.5L DI V8 and a real dual clutch trans!!!!!!! I would own one!!!!

You know...it's funny, in all the pictures of this concept car (happy Junkie? ) I see "production-ized"...none of them alter the roof line or greenhouse in general. That's the only design element that would have to be greatly changed for the car to go production....

I cannot STAND the Stingray concept, its really quite hideous to my tastes. If the C7 is anything like the Stingray..I'll never even consider one, even if I have the available resources.

Now the ZR1...that..is a sexy car, and I'd very happily have one in my garage.

I agree that the Corvette needs a V8 but a 5.3 (327 cu) could do for a base model. With the next generation engine design, it could make about the same power as a current LS3 yet potentially crack 30 mpg highway.

No point in a tubro6 for the Corvette. Same power as a NA V8, yet it would probably weigh about the same and cost more. The biggest reason for using a turbo6 in a car is packaging and development cost. A T6 can fit easier in an engine bay that is designed for I4's and V6's than a V8 can, particularly the OHC V8's that nearly every other automaker uses. Second, enhancing a V6 is usually less expensive than developing a new low volume V8.

The Corvette doesn't have such restrictions. Its engine bay is supposed to accomodate a V8, so packaging isn't a problem. And GM's V8's are sold in such high volume that their development cost get spread paper thin, unlike say ... Nissan. As a result, their V8's cost little more than most NA V6's on the market and less than a turbo charged V6.

i simply do not like anything about that concept pic of the c7 vette. i just don't. hopefully gm will change it up completely. and a corvette with a v6? no. it's a classic american sports car. v8 all the way or it's not a vette.

Honestly... when has a Vette Concept been SPOT on with the production. The C5, IMO, was a combination of:

and

with a lil 1993 Maxda RX7 and the 1991 Acura NSX

That first pic would look good with some gold teeth photoshop'd into that grille.

I like the side and rear shots, but that grille is butt ugly.

There's very little they can do to "improve" the design of the C6. It's almost timeless...it still looks new! (to me, anyways)

I predict the C7 will look much different so they can start fresh with a hot design rather than risk botching up an already near-perfect design. (not necessarily like the Stingray concept)

Sorta like the difference between Gens 2 and 3. Rather than the difference between 5 and 6.
