Did you see the January sales for Equinox and Terrain? Almost 15,000 were delivered between the two! Smokin'!

No doubt.. and I don't think for a minute that January's sales numbers were to do with Toyota's issues. The Recall scenario didn't get rolling until a week before the month closed.

Anyway... here are so sweet things to remember:

Quote:
Chevrolet Equinox retail sales increased 67 percent; estimated retail share of the compact crossover segment is up 5 points (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
GMC Terrain retail sales were up 162 percent (compared to the vehicle it replaces, Pontiac Torrent); estimated retail share of the compact crossover segment is up more than 3 points (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
Cadillac SRX retail sales were up 218 percent vs. last year, the fifth consecutive month it has gained more than 100 percent year-over-year; SRX gained approximately 15 points of retail share in the Mid-lux SUV crossover segment (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
In their first year on sale, GM Compact Crossovers – Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain – have become the second best selling crossovers in the industry
GM sells more crossovers than any other automaker, representing approximately 20 percent of industry crossovers sold
Buick LaCrosse retail sales were up 142 percent, the fourth consecutive month it has gained more than 100 percent year-over-year; LaCrosse gained an estimated 12 points of retail segment share, making it number one in its segment (Jan. 2009 vs. Jan. 2010)
Chevrolet dealers sold 5,371 Camaros – the eighth straight month it has outsold Mustang

Yes. I would agree.

The playing field, after this very long time...is finally level. Or about as level as it's going to get. The foreign makes are either bland in vehicle lineup, or in deep legal/quality trouble. And people are being forced to realize this thanks to the gov't issuing forced recalls and warnings to drives. Not only that, but GM and Ford are giving people a truly legitimate reason to turn away from the foreign makers. They are COMPETITIVE, hell -- they are CLASS-LEADING!!!

There will always be the crazies who will cling to toyota and friends like scripture. But for the vast majority, the people in the middle who just want to percieve a good vehicle: They've got dark clouds of recalls and corruption on one hand, and a clear blue sky of new, outstanding vehicles backed by companies asking for that second chance. Sales reports will reflect this year, I think, which choice they've made.

And you've all seen the upcoming vehicles for GM and Ford...this momentum is going to keep going well into this decade!! The best we can hope for is that they "stay the course".

The playing field is nowhere near level. The Domestic vs Import debate is nowhere near dead and neither is Toyota.

Get back to me when Japan eliminates its automotive trade barriers and Consumer Reports doesn't just issue temporary removals of recommended Toyotas

It's too early to open the champagne, guys.

Wake me up when GM cars sold in Europe (Opel, Chevrolet/Daewoo) outperform Toyota and Honda in reliability rankings. And don't even get me started on Chrysler, especially in terms of electric/electronic installations in their cars.

Ford is quite a different story -- american Fords (Mustang etc.) have quite a bad reputation in terms of reliability while european ones (Focus, Fiesta, Ka etc.) are now some of the most reliable cars.

Anyway, I'm all for GM and Ford becoming serious competitors for Toyota and Honda. But they aren't there yet.

I agree that GM's January CUV sales were based on the product, not due to Toyota's recall issues. That is the exciting thing about it! What's more exciting is that those CUV sales numbers would have been higher if production/supply could keep up with the huge demand for Equinox and Terrain.

Yup...that's what U just did.

The Domestics are coming out with HIT AFTER HIT, and its actually being seen by the mainstream buyer not just us enthusiasts.

And while there are certainly still decent products out there from the Foreign makers... the MAIN one's "Armor Kinks" are showing. And it looks like a sword has already been thrust in to the opening.

Cruze, Fiesta, Aveo, Focus, Regal, CTS updates, XTS, ATS, new GMT SUVs, new Silvy and Sierra with their new HD models... eff!!! I could go on.

This Toyota issue was the best BREAK the resurging Domestics could have gotten.

GM needs to WISE up and get a new IMPALA out ASAP... along with moving some of the refreshes up in their luxo line.
