Sorry its taken so long to get back...

Trouble shoot'in a pump...

Ok, what I do... I'm a subsea engineer... In way simplified terms, i take care of all the mechanical and hydraulic equipment used to control the formation pressures as we drill a well.... We are poking holes in mother nature, and sometimes she don't like it... so she gives us stuff back, gas, oil, salt water etc... kinda like poking Deb and she throws stuff back at us... expletives, lewd comments etc...Well, that stuff comes back at seriously high pressures... anywhere from 50 to 15,000 psi... We don't like getting seriously kilt, so we close the well in using my equipment...

BOP, (blow out preventer) Stack... 65 feet tall, weights 650,000 lbs, we lower it to the sea floor and attach it to the well head...

Riser, used to return drilling mud to the rig without any of it leaking to the sea...

Diverters, used to direct fluids and gas if we do take a kick...

Koomey Unit, provides the hydraulic fluid to operate everything...

Tensioners, X 12, used to support the weight of the riser from the rig to the sea floor... in our case, well over a mile in depth... They are big air over hydraulic cylinders that allow for ship heave and movement...

DSC, (drill string compensator) does the same thing as the tensioners but on the drill string... the long pipe used to turn the drill bit... We do not want the bit bouncing off the bottom, we want a constant weight on it, so the compensator allows for rig heave and movement in the drill string...

As I said, this is way over simplified, but that's what I do in a nutshell...On this rig we are fortunate to have two of us, Sub sea employees, one day, one night. The rig I'm being re-assigned to only has one... Lots of hours and lots of overtime... = Car Mods...
