Also note if you move to a place where its more gun friendly, someone might shoot your dog if it wanders in their yard, reguardless if it does anything, they just have to feel its a threat, and the only thing you will get is a bill for the bullets.

I live in the country on 10 acres but we still have a county leash law that mind you no one in our hood sticks to, so everyones dogs including hunting dogs in hunting season run through our yard, I do not like that and wouldn't want any of my animals roaming loose either. I had a dog that I rescued and it would not stay home, our yard is too big to entirely fence in so I chained it to a cable run between two trees, well long story short we had a bad storm in the middle of the night and lightning hit the same tree not once but twice in a row and fried my dog! Of course I feel bad, I never thought that would happen. Long story short, either the fence for the yard or one of those invisible fences someone else mentioned but do not chain you dog or just let it roam free.

My neighbor has an electric fence for his 3 dogs, and he has to physically pick them up and move them outside of the perimeter when he removes their collars. They get get it down to the very last inch they can go before they get zapped.

My neighbor has two loud Labordoodles who still have their collars on and need to have the fur trimmed often so the fur doesn't block the signal. We often find one of them in our yard.

Didn't you have trouble with him/her wrapping them self around the tree???

I started with poles, then quickly went to 4x4s cemented in below ground lvl with and eye hook, so you could mow over then and not hit anything. The cable runs on ground and has clips on the end so it can be undone for mowing too.

We now got 2 dogs on that system, you just can't let the two cross far enough into each others zone to get crossed up and tangled, but still able to play. Not hard and the dogs just love it. They can really move around the yard and have fun and I don't have to worry.

I Live in Southern California now and 99% of houses out here have fenced backyards between each home.

But a lot of my family lives in PA and TN and they don't have fences between homes.

I do like all the info i received from everyone. My main concern here really was getting a feel for people who deal with dogs everyday with this same issue of having no fences.

I will def. look for a house to buy with a fence already...I can't risk being sued or my dogs getting shot at.

Here are the little guys.

Thank you all for the info.

Here in our town, the law states you cannot let your Dog run free at any time. So if you are going to have a Dog you have to either keep it in the house and only let it out on a leash or have a fenced in yard. You are also not spposed to chain up a Dog.

Even if there was not a law on the books I would think just for the animals safety the owner would want to have a fenced in yard. One thig I hate to see is a poor Dog walking the streets and almost getting hit by a car. You do have some mean people that will try to hit dogs and cats when they see them...

We got a guy down the road with two of them monsters, but they are very calm n sedate, they just lay in the front yard while he is out there.

But everyone stares like crazy, and not cause the dogs are just free, it cause this loon wears shorts n a tank top 365 24/7, rain, shine, snow or ice.
And hes not a big guy but medium build fit.

Like them guys on their HD when its -40 out, no gloves or helmet, just some dark sunglasses and a leather jacket.

He is either a mega mega man or on something........

if your restrictions allow you to put up a fence (iron, wood, chain link, etc) then i would do that... if not, then you're SOL

We use the pet safe electric fence. Works great. Helped a neighbor install one but neither he nor the family will take the time to walk the dog around the perimiter to train it. Needless to say his doesn't work for his dog. Stuck my dog in his yard and after he heard the first beep he ran to the porch and refused to move because he didn't know where the boundry was. Took me two trips around the yard a day for one week and our dog picked it up quick. They don't like that electricity monster.
